Registered for guaranteed access to the Rainbow Six Siege beta but still haven’t received your download code? You aren’t alone.

Both Reddit and Ubisoft’s forums are filled with users frustrated with the way the publisher has handled access to the beta, which has seen pre-order customers and players with guaranteed access forced to wait for a download code long after the beta has started.

But you shouldn’t have to wait too much longer, community developer Chase Straight says.

Addressing fans on Reddit last night, Straight acknowledged that there is still “some confusion and frustration regarding how access is being granted” to the beta, before adding that those who registered a guaranteed access key would receive their download code today “at the latest”.

“As you know, we are granting access to the Closed Beta in waves,” he said. “We obviously want to get you access as quickly as possible (we want you to play and have fun!), but the focus of our testing right now is on player experience flow and matchmaking. By staggering beta access, we can better manage server stability as the player population ramps up, which is crucial to a great experience when the game launches December 1st. We will be addressing load testing at a later date.

“We’ve already gathered a lot of incredibly useful data during the last few days of the technical test, and we have many matchmaking improvements in the development pipeline. We expect to make even more progress over the weekend with your help.

“Anyone who pre-ordered the game will be receiving their beta activation email today [September 24] (North American time zone), and we are currently in the process of sending those out. By the end of the day, we will also be sending out invites to a large number of those who had guaranteed access codes redeemed on the website. If you do not receive your invite today please hang tight, we will give an update tomorrow morning [September 25].”

Players are able to gain access to the beta via three different methods: either by pre-ordering the game, redeeming a guaranteed access code on the Rainbow Six website, or by registering for access and hoping for the best.

“I pre ordered the game a couple of months ago with the promise of access to the closed beta for Xbox one on the 24th of September!” one user wrote on Ubisoft’s forums. “Its now the 25 of September, dont promise something and not deliver!! hate it when companies lie just so they can get people to pre order their games, If this isn’t resolved today and I don’t have my beta code then I will be canceling my pre order for this game.”

“Ubisoft is doing their damn level best to overtake EA for the worst customer experience!!” added another. “Keep up the good work Ubisoft and you’ll achieve your goal.”

Ubisoft only announced that access to the beta would be granted in waves earlier this week, months after it said that players would be guaranteed access by pre-ordering.

“The majority of guaranteed access codes will get their invites today [September 24],” Straight added in a later post, “the remaining ones will be sent tomorrow at the very latest.

“I know everyone is frustrated and I understand that completely.”

Rainbow Six Siege’s beta started yesterday and is due to run until next Monday, September 28. Even if you do get in, though, don’t expect it to be entirely smooth sailing.
