Star Wars Battlefront will release on PS4, Xbox One and PC this holiday, EA has confirmed, skipping a launch on Xbox 360 and PS3.

The game will be the first multiplatform shooter from EA to skip a last-gen release, with gameplay footage due to be unveiled at Star Wars Celebration next month.

The game is still expected to be built on Frostbite, however – the same engine powering Battlefield 4 and today’s Battlefield Hardline.

Gameplay footage of the game was shown off behind-closed-doors at a retail event earlier this month, with attendees said to have given the footage a “superb ovation”.
