Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes will run at 720p on Xbox One, but at a much higher 1080p on PS4, Konami has confirmed.

Both games will render at 60 frames per second.

The confirmation of the game's resolution on the two platforms comes via an official comparison posted on the MGS5 Ground Zeroes website.

"Since Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is a multi-platform game, we have taken the opportunity to test the differences in how each version of the game looks and plays," explains the website. "The videos and images below show an overview of these differences, which we hope will help to decide which version is right for you."

The video will be posted at a later date.

Both the PS3 and Xbox One versions render at under 720p, but are scaled up to 720p. The older consoles can also only manage 30 frames per second.

The website features comparisons of PS3/PS4 and Xbox 360/Xbox One.

MGS 5: Ground Zeroes will be released March 21.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

The PS3 to PS4 images show a considerable improvement when running on the next-gen system, but the improvement from Xbox 360 to Xbox One seems much less dramatic.

In most cases this was because last gen it was lower res. alpha buffers and a few points of video resolution (720p vs 708p or some such). In the cases where it was dramatic such as Rockstar games which were always inarguably superior on X360 (except GTAV that runs like a boss on PS3) this would get brought up. I'd see the PS3 defence force out arguing it was irrelevant, overblown, etc. Now it's the same thing with those who were nuttiest on the SDF going nuts grinding the numbers in the face of those they felt slighted them and their corporation of choice last gen. Daft really.

I had a PS3 last gen for years and I enjoyed most multi-plats just as much as X360 owners even allowing for the differences and I suspect most XB1 owners will do the same. They will likely however be feeling more than just a touch hacked off as I did in the PS3 era having bought the more expensive device and getting a worse experience.

I can remember News like that in the Past, about how much better Red Dead Redemption looks on the 360 and others. Of course News like that will get fade away if it just all the Time happens, like "No WiiU Version of Game whatever" News kinda disapeared.

And it is normal that in the Beginning of the new Gen News like these appears, the interesset about that is very high.
And that "I'm not playing Graphic" stuff is odd, because better Graphics is all the new Gen has to provide. Anybody who don't care about Graphics can stick with the old Consoles, they do Ground Zeros just fine. Same Gameplay.

This. It actually bothers me how stuff like this can be even remotely newsworthy. It wasn't last gen (if it was I didn't see anyone arguing over the difference between Deus Ex: HR 360 and Deus Ex: HR PS3).

I mean who really cares if GZ looks better on PS4. I play games for the gameplay not the pretty graphics. It's the reason why I can still enjoy Pac-Man and Missile Command.

Here we go again, are we gonna get this every time a new game comes out.
I respect it's a quiet time in gaming news at this time in the year, but this is daily now.

It's clear to me that the Xbox has put gaming in a secondary position to multimedia entertainment functionality. To me that is fine but people have to deal with the fact that this console will performance wise be inferior to the ps4 but if you look at the console as more than just a gaming box then you can see that Microsoft strategy may work better for the casuals. As for the cloud I doubt that's going to help properly that technology isn't going to happen anytime soon.

It looked to me as if the PS3 version was much more fuzzy than the xbox 360, whilst the xbox one and PS4 were about the same LOD

A little dissapointed the next gen games appear only to be high res texture versions - hopefully we'll get better draw distances etc etc..

- though the real news is the X1 rendered at only 720p .. I'm no statistician but I'm starting to see a pattern
