Due to open in March, Sumo Nottingham will work alongside the company's existing Sheffield and India studios on "a mix of exciting projects", with the aim of hiring a team of 50 people within the first year.

As well as LittleBigPlanet 3, Sumo previously developed the Xbox 360 version of Forza Horizon 2, Sonic & All-Stars Racing: Transformed, and contributed to the development of Disney Infinity 3.0.

It is currently helping develop Crackdown 3 with Reagent Games, and is working on "several other exciting" unannounced projects. One of them, according to various job descriptions, is a "large, undisclosed AAA project" built with Unreal Engine 4.

"Opening the new Sumo studio proves how serious we are about extending our core capabilities to both better serve our AAA client base and reflect our ambition to explore new opportunities across console, PC, mobile and VR," commented Sumo Digital CEO Carl Cavers.
