UPDATE: Take Two has said that Zelnick “misspoke” during its earnings call, acknowledging that Rockstar has previously said that it is exploring story mode DLC for GTA 5.

ORIGINAL STORY: The boss of Rockstar’s parent company Take Two Interactive has denied ever talking about story-based DLC for GTA 5, despite the content being mentioned by Rockstar multiple times over the last 18 months.

CEO Strauss Zelnick broached the subject during Take Two’s earnings call last night when asked for an update on the DLC, saying: “No, we haven’t discussed any story-based downloadable content. We did talk about the Heists and they’ve been released.”

Pushed on the subject again, Zelnick said that the pair had “different recollections”.

While Take Two largely leaves it up to Rockstar to announce new content and titles, Zelnick’s answers may come as a concern to those expecting to see story-based content for GTA 5 soon.

Rockstar first teased some “exciting new Story Mode updates” in November 2013, two months after the game’s initial release. Then, one month later, it said that it had “big plans for substantial additions in 2014 continuing Michael, Franklin and Trevor’s action, mayhem and unexpected adventures in Southern San Andreas”. That content failed to materialise.

In February 2014, Rockstar announced that it had “new Assassination and Flight School missions for Story Mode” lined up as DLC, but again, they never appeared.

It then teased story content again in April 2014, stating that “later this year, look for even more additions to both Grand Theft Auto Online and Grand Theft Auto V, including more holiday-themed updates, some very exciting Story Mode DLC and much more.”

In July, however, Rockstar claimed that it had “not made any announcements for DLC in the Story Mode of GTA 5. If we do release any packs, like was done for GTA 4, we will announce it on the newswire along with any information we have about them.”

The latest DLC for GTA 5, which introduced Heists to the game’s online multiplayer, rolled out earlier this year. Additional free GTA Online content is also planned for the future.
