FIFA 17 has set a new launch week sales record for the franchise, just bettering the performance of FIFA 13, reports ChartTrack.

Sales are also up almost 18 per cent on last year’s FIFA 16.

PS4 took over 53 per cent of week one FIFA 17 sales, with the Xbox One accounting for 41 per cent, a figure likely much closer to PS4 thanks to the aggressive retailer pricing of the FIFA 17 Xbox One console bundles.

Microsoft’s Forza Horizon 3 takes second place, outpacing Forza Horizon 2’s launch week by 12 per cent, and becoming the third best-selling Forza title during launch week.

A weekend of PS4 price cuts and associated reductions of LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens help the family game climb 127 per cent and chart in third place.

BioShock The Collection is down to fourth, with XCOM 2 returning to the chart in fifth thanks to the PS4 and Xbox One editions.

Nintendo’s Selects range also expanded last week, with Super Mario 3D World back in the chart at No.32, thanks to a sales increase of more than 999 per cent.

With FIFA 17’s record-breaking launch it’s no surprise to see PES 2017 fall from second to sixth in the chart. Konami will be hoping strong word of mouth for its soccer title will enable a long sales tail in the coming weeks, though you can’t help but feel the onslaught of high profile releases will see the title dumped out of the Top 20 in a matter of weeks.
