February's US video games chart has been released by the NPD Group, confirming Far Cry Primal as the biggest-selling game of the month, outpacing Black Ops 3 and GTA 5 which placed in second and third respectively.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm takes fourth spot, NBA 2K16 is fifth, LEGO Marvel Avengers sits in sixth and Capcom's Street Fighter V is a disappointing seventh. The content-shy fighting game will have to hope sales tick along thanks to the promise of regular new DLC.

Fire Emblem Fates is new in ninth, though would be third if all SKUs were combined. The previous game sold 117,000 at retail vs Fates' 400k across retail and digital.

Hardware was once again led by PS4, with Sony stating: "We would like to thank our fans and partners for making PlayStation 4 the top-selling hardware platform and the software sales leader in February, according to NPD. We continued to see strong year-over-year sales growth for PS4 hardware and software and are truly humbled by the support and enthusiasm from gamers. We will continue to deliver amazing gaming experiences with the upcoming launches of Ratchet & Clank, MLB The Show 16 and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End."

Microsoft was typically vague about its success. Mike Nichols, corporate vice president of Xbox Marketing said: "The unmatched lineup of games available on Xbox One continues to generate a strong response from gamers as seen through global Xbox Live engagement and exclusive game sales. Compared to February 2015, exclusive Xbox One U.S. game sales drove a 49 percent increase and the total number of hours spent gaming on Xbox One worldwide rose 93 percent."
