DriveClub developer Evolution Studios accidentally let slip that it was developing a PlayStation 4 game years before the console was announced – and was relieved when word of its mistake failed to make it onto the internet.

Recalling the blunder while walking press through the game’s Scottish location earlier this week, art director Alex Perkins revealed: “This is where one of the programmers, when we were on a location trip, managed to tell the farmer we were working on a PS4 game three years ago.

“We laugh now but at the time we were like, ‘I can’t believe you said that to someone!’ But yeah, a rural farmer in the middle of Skye is not going to really know what you’re talking about, I don’t think, so I think we got away with that one. Certainly I didn’t see anything on the internet about it.”

Somehow or other, Evolution managed to keep the leak under wraps for another couple of years until Sony revealed PS4 in February 2013.

And those years in development finally appear to be paying off for Evo. We came away pleasantly surprised by what we saw of DriveClub when we went hands-on with the latest build earlier this week.
