Sony has acknowledged that PSN is currently facing "connectivity issues" and warned users that they may experience issues when attempting to log in to the service.

In a message posted on the US support site Sony recognised that PSN is currently "intermittently available", adding that the network is "currently experiencing high volume and users may experience issues when connecting to the service. We will update you with any changes that may occur in regards to this issue. Thank you for your patience."

PlayStation UK, meanwhile, claims that only a "small number" of users are experiencing issues with PSN. It says that it is "investigating the matter as a priority".

The high volume of users is no doubt linked to the launch of the Destiny beta, which rolled out on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 earlier this evening.

It isn't known when normal service may be resumed.

Annoying why I'm affected by a game I'm never going to buy or play. was hoping next gen would be better in all aspects and not just slightly better graphics and slightly bigger maps, levels etc. Split the load and improve the infrastructure. Seriously your telling me I can't play online because someone is downloading a beta of a game I have no interest in.

@AIDEY 6, total BS, I had a 360 last gen and a ps33, zero difference playing online. Live was also down yesterday and that was with NO beta, was down when titanfall launched, and was down twice in 1 month in April. live has been down more in 2014 then PSn.......

I expect their servers to be busy, but Xbox lives pi$$e$ on the PSN from a huge height it's not even funny, so highly unlikely they'll experience the same crap service as us PS3/PS4 owners
