PlayStation 4's specs may not be enough to achieve photo-realistic graphics during the next console cycle, Quantic Dream CEO David Cage has suggested, but maintains that his team will come "really close".

Speaking at GDC Europe this morning about Quantic Dream's future projects, Cage said that his team is "getting closer and closer to photo-realistic rendering. We were quite amazed by the quality that we achieved with The Dark Sorcerer without any specific work or development, just throwing polygons at the console. That was a very interesting experience for us and we believe that we can go much further.

"I don't know if we'll reach a point during this cycle where you wont be able to tell the difference between a film and a game," he continued, "but I know that we're going to get really close to that during this cycle.

"I think we'll probably need to wait a little bit longer to reach the point where you can’t tell the difference, but honestly, during the next cycle, it's going to be very impressive the progress that we're going to make."

Cage added that the visuals seen in The Dark Sorcerer E3 demo should be a "minimum" of what to expect from PS4.

The Dark Sorcerer, a Quantic Dream "short" released during E3, was created using an enhanced version of Beyond: Two Souls' engine, which has seen "tweaks here and there" to take advantage of PS4.

Besides Beyond, Quantic Dream is currently developing an unannounced PS4 title.

That Jimquisition is the best one there is.

In under 10 minutes Jim Sterling shows you one of the biggest problems in gaming today. Oh, and it's funny as hell in its' own right.

honestly, i could give a toss about it. to quote jim sterling, david cage thinks 'polygons is emotions', and in my eyes aiming for photo-realism with nothing else is completely pointless. good gameplay with bad graphics is forgiveable, whereas bad gameplay with good graphics is still not fun. just go make a movie mr cage, its obvious thats what you want to do.

Meh, I won't be satisfied until we have visuals that look like the real world, and physics engines that can simulate destruction down to individual atoms.
