UPDATE – 6/11 15:42: As spotted by Eurogamer, Activision has changed the wording on its support site to state that only copies “pre-ordered through participating retailers” will contain a code to download NUK3TOWN, removing an earlier line stating that “all retail pre-order copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops III will include an in-box code to redeem to download NUK3TOWN”.

Fans expecting to receive the code with their pre-order, of course, are understandably upset, with many taking to Twitter to vent their frustration.

ORIGINAL STORY: Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s bonus Nuketown multiplayer map won’t be included with all pre-orders, it’s been confirmed, despite Activision’s marketing suggesting otherwise.

Instead, the map will only be available in physical copies brought from GAME, or with digital copies purchased via PSN or Xbox Live. The map won’t be released to other players until at least spring 2016.

The exclusivity deal was spotted by UKVGDeals.com, who noticed that a recent trailer for the game stated that “GAME Exclusive for ‘NUK3TOWN’ content applies to physical or ‘boxed’ copies of Call of Duty Black Ops III Standard Edition on PS4, XB1 and PC only, while stocks last. GAME Exclusive ends Spring 2016.

“‘NUK3TOWN’ content is also available by ordering the PS4 console bundle, the hardened and Juggernog Editions or through any digital orders/pre-orders.”

That’s in contrast to Activision’s official support website which states that “all retail pre-order copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops III will include an in-box code to redeem to download NUK3TOWN”.

“All players who pre-order or pre-purchase Call of Duty: Black Ops III on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC will receive the NUK3TOWN Bonus Map for Call of Duty: Black Ops III multiplayer, including players who pre-ordered or pre-purchased prior to the announcement of NUK3TOWN.”

Nuketown is described by Activision as the “most popular multiplayer map in the Black Ops series”, having debuted in the original 2010 game. It was later remade for Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 3.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches at midnight tonight on PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. We checked out the Xbox 360 version earlier today, but discovered that it looks and performs worse than the original Call of Duty: Black Ops…
