EA believes that its first titles for Xbox One and PS4 reached a level of quality that it was unable to achieve with its launch titles for the previous generation - even in spite of ongoing issues with Battlefield 4 and low-scoring reviews for NBA Live 14.

Speaking at the Credit Suisse 2013 Annual Technology Conference overnight, EA CEO Andrew Wilson explained that simplified system architectures aided the transition.

"One of the nuances here is that this transition, so this console cycle, both Sony and Microsoft platforms have simplified their architecture and simplified their tool sets," he said.

"In the last transition we [spent] the first two to three years actually just trying to figure out how to get the most out of the boxes, and particularly because the two boxes were very different. So the good news now is I think that we have reached the level of quality at launch that we didn't get through last time. And our teams are already starting to think about investment in new innovation for the future."

For the new-generation systems, EA has launched Battlefield 4, Need For Speed Rivals, FIFA 14, NBA Live 14 and Madden NFL 25. Analysis

It's somewhat comical that EA can claim to have reached a high quality bar at the new console launches when you consider that NBA Live and Madden are both poor quality titles, and Battlefield 4 has suffered from all manner of issues both in single and multiplayer.

To be fair, they never stipulated the relative degree of that "level of quality".

For all it's bugs BF4 is beautiful and when running correctly is tremendous. Fifa 14 again a huge success.

EA PR tactics codename:"Any publicity is good publicity"

Still I can imagine the CEO meaning it when he told it. Over the lifetime of PS3 many developers were complaining that it is hard to develop for. Unfortunately making statements like that when many of your franchises are suffering from bug infestation and lack of QA is very bad timing.

I often get the impression that EA does not have a common PR department, which ends up in contradictory statements or stuff like this that meant well can be easily taken out of context. Like the biggest enemy of EA in the PR is EA itself.

To be fair, I think the transition is going quite smoothly. Love the new PS4, and even in the bug-tastic titles I'm having no issues so for :) I still hate EA.... Arrogant bunch of willies!

They aren't bugs, just 'special exclusive features' that will only be available for a short time.
