Batman: Arkham Knight will miss its late 2014 release instead hitting stores in 2015, Rocksteady Studios brand marketing producer Dax Ginn has confirmed.

"Now Batman: Arkham Knight is totally awesome," Ginn told Kotaku. "The thing about awesome, though, is awesome takes time. And totally awesome takes a lot of time.

"So in collaboration with our colleagues at Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics, we have decided to extend the development time of Batman: Arkham Knight."

Ginn added: "Now, the very simple reason for doing this is to ensure we are delivering the awesome level of quality that Batman fans and gamers expect from this, the final episode and the epic conclusion to the Rocksteady Arkham trilogy. The Dark Knight will face his ultimate challenge in Batman: Arkham Knight now to be released in 2015."

So that's Arkham Knight off your holiday shopping list. Bat fans will have to make do with this autumn's launch of LEGO Batman 3.

Nooooooooo! I was looking forward to this. Love Batman and the Arkham series, really wish developers would stop announcing games so early. Just builds up pointless hype then lets us down then builds up hypes blah blah. It's dumb, please stop it developers.

I totally get why this has to happen and its better to release it when it is fully ready and the best it can possibly be but these delays are starting hit almost every big title that has been announced, at this rate there won't be any left for 2014 and the ones that are releasing in 2014 are still later than initially planned.
Why don't they overshoot and add a safety buffer of several months on top of their expected release to account for any possible delays, it would save any disappointment and gives a better impression.
Then again for all we know they may already do this but still end up going over the safety buffer as well.
