An all-new Assassin’s Creed is in development, but Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has suggested the game may not be tied to a 2017 release.
“It will be back when it’s ready. That’s when we feel we have something there,” he told GameSpot.
Guillemot says Ubisoft has other titles which can take the slack left by Assassin’s Creed, enabling the development team to really knock the new title out of the park.
“What we saw in the development of the next [Assassin’s Creed] was that we had an opportunity to take it to another level,” Guillemot explained. “So we said we’ll take all the time it takes to make the experience fantastic. It was feasible because we have other games. There’s a huge potential in this game to revolutionise the IP, so we said, ‘Let’s make sure we change our model so we have more time and that we can bring back a greater experience.'”
As for how revolutionary the new game will be, Guillemot isn’t willing to say just yet.
“It’s difficult to say right now. You’ll actually make up your mind on that when you see it,” he teased.
Ubisoft does, however, have a number of Assassin’s Creed releases lined up for the holiday season, including the Ezio Collection on PS4 and Xbox One, and the movie coming to cinemas in December.
