WipEout HD update out tomorrow

Adds new multiplayer functionality.

Sony Computer Entertainment has sent word that WipEout HD game update 1.30 will be released at 5pm GMT on Wednesday, April 8.

The update is multiplayer focussed, with the primary addition being the new Online Ranking system. Players will have 50 ranks to progress through, with finishing position, speed class and the rank of your opponents determining how many ranking points are awarded as you progress from Trainee to WipEout Legend.

Also new is a podium screen which will display the top three finishers after each online race or tournament. Regardless of your race finishing position there will also be the chance of being awarded an online badge, with a total of 33 to collect.

Other new features include the ability to send and receive game invites and be informed of any friend with an active online game including the ability to join them. If you join a race which is already in progress you'll now be able to watch the racing action in real time, choosing from four different camera angles and which racer to watch.

- HUD Weapon Hints on/off
- Opponents – Choose to create a Public, Friends only or Invite only game
- Barrel Rolls on/off
- Pilot Assist Allowed on/off
- Number of laps (max 20)
