The teen horror movie experience will make its debut on PS3 next year with the release of Supermassive Games' Until Dawn, Sony has announced.
The game will feature all the elements you'd expect from your favourite teen horror movies: a funny, sexy and scary script; a beautiful young cast; an isolated location; a devious killer; a dark secret and the all-important twist.
On the anniversary of their friends' disappearance, a group of classmates visit the site of the mystery to lay their ghosts to rest and get some closure. Little do they know, they'll end up burying each other instead.
You'll play through the story as multiple characters, sometimes with a friend and sometimes on your own, to discover who it is that's intent on killing off you and your friends.
Your actions will have real consequences in the game, with the survival of each friend down to your decisions.
"We've been working on this game for a while now, collaborating with Hollywood writers and US TV talent, doing our best to bring the teen horror experience to PlayStation," explained Will Byles, executive Creative director, Supermassive Games. "Inspired by classic movies in the genre, we expect that Until Dawn will draw you in with its characters, killer dialogue and shocking, twisted story."
The game has also been designed to use PlayStation Move, offering one-to-one mapping which promises to make your character's hand feel like your own. Move will be used as a torch, to tune in radios, fire shotguns and solve puzzles.
Until Dawn will be released in 2013.
A good slasher movie can be great fun, so let's hope Supermassive can nail the mix of fun and terror with Until Dawn. Pull it off and this could end up being a great party game for a group of friends wanting something different to SingStar.
