Sony has sent in some super engineers to help Epic optimise the Unreal Engine 3 for the PlayStation 3.
During its pre-E3 press conference Sony announced that Unreal Tournament 3 would be released on PS3 in 2007 and that it had been working with Epic to ensure the Unreal Engine 3 was fully optimised for its console.
More details on this process of optimisation have now been revealed by Phil Harrison, president of Sony's Worldwide Studios.
"... Epic isn't a huge company. They don't have unlimited resource. We have parachuted in some of our SWAT team of super engineers to help them. Specifically, to optimise for SPUs, which are the point of difference that the Cell Processor has." Harrison told Game Informer.
Harrison claims that the performance gains for developers using the Unreal Engine 3 will go up "exponentially". Gamers will also see this extra performance passed down to "make for a much better game experience".

No wonder there are no great PS3 games
Obviously, if a major developer like Epic can't make a great game without the aid of actual PS3 programers, its pretty safe to say that system is doomed. Sony can't help every game be developed, that is a fact.
This must be why so many developers up and cut PS3 out of their plans entirely. This is the biggest admission by Sony I have seen that flat out demonstrates why their game lineup is and probably always will be small and pathetic!
