Update - 28.02.2013: We're pleased to say that we've worked with Square Enix on mutually agreeable terms, meaning our Tomb Raider review will be on the site early next week. We would like to point out that our previous disagreement had nothing to do with review scores.

Original story: Today the Tomb Raider review embargo lifts. We had hoped to bring you our review alongside the rest that will appear online today. Sadly, we're unable to do that.

We did not agree with terms in the NDA provided by Square Enix, and therefore were not provided a copy of Tomb Raider ahead of release. Attempts to work with Square Enix on a new NDA with agreeable terms failed.

We will bring you a review as soon as possible.

Hmmm... Still an early embargo... When in the US release? It's not tomorrow, is it?

I don't really know much of Gibson's work, but I trust Keza's views. I just find the situation strange, and that there must be more to it...

I wouldn't go by Ellie Gibson, she's useless in my view anyway.

I think it's Square Enix trying to control the press like they did before the scandel with Hitman (the official PS and 360 mag's use the exact same picture for starters on there cover) and now because a lot of the sites have changed the rules they don't like it.

I think good on the UK Video game press for mostly working together and pretty much saying FU to Square Enix when times are hard with their advertsing revenue, if anyone is gonna get hurt out of all this it's them at the end day.

8/10 from Eurogamer and 9.1 from IGN UK. Who knows.

The plot thickens. Eurogamer's Ellie Gibson, and IGN UK's Keza McDonald, both also European sites released a review score today. So far things are looking for the game in terms of score.

I get the feeling the problem has nothing to with the quality of the game (I might be wrong though). I understand there is a bad practice of higher scored reviews getting the ability to be released early, but I don't remember a case where this practice has warranted an official statement from multiple review publications not agreeing with the NDA.

Also considering Martins comment about this not effecting the American press, mean something strange is not right with this...

The NDA states that you're not allowed to mention that Lara has had a recent breast reduction following a bad back.

I really hope she isn't just another token, big-boobed video game lady. I'm seriously sick of that whole thing.

Does the NDA tell you not to talk about the bad points too much?

A good review will hold just as much weight on its subject 6 months after release as it would a day before.

There's no shame in standing up for yourself and maintaining integrity. Everyone here will still read that review. Some more as he game ages.

I respect this standpoint.

I've tweeted Square Enix Europe. Think we should all do it pointing to this news article asking for information as to what was in the NDA to make at least two sites reject it. More people that do this the more they will be pressured into answering.

Oh, I hope this doesn't mean the games a bit rubbish...

Yeah, good show. I can't imagine anyone signing off on that NDA, to be honest. I know GameSpot UK didn't.

The US didn't get such an NDA, though, so the only people who are getting a tough time on this one are the Europeans.

Good work guys, glad you stuck to your guns. Too many sites and reviewers are untrustworthy and I'm glad to know VG will stand up to the PR folk at publishers when something isn't ethical. You've got my support too.

Good show VG and poor show Square Enix.
Think publishers need to see that this kinda thing has no place in todays gaming world. After everything that happened (some of which was to do with this game) you would think they would know better.
