Crystal Dynamics has laid off "roughly 12" members of its team following a review of its unannounced new IP, parent company Square Enix has confirmed.

The redundancies have not affected the Tomb Raider development team, which is "well into production" on a PS4 and Xbox One sequel to March's Lara Croft reboot.

"We've made some decisions at Crystal Dynamics last week around the second project we're working on, which has resulted in a small number of roles (roughly 12) becoming redundant as we re-scope the project," Square Enix told Kotaku.

"This doesn't affect the Tomb Raider development team, who as confirmed last week are well into production on a next-generation sequel. We're a close-knit team at Crystal and wouldn't be making these changes if we didn't feel it was absolutely necessary. We'll help those affected as best we can and we want to thank them for their hard work and commitment. If anyone is looking for development talent, please and we’ll put you in touch direct."

Crystal Dynamics' new IP is expected to be a next-generation title. The title had previously been expected to be revealed last year. has contacted Square Enix for comment.

Yes! Tomb Raider on the new consoles! Also, why not just put the entire team on the next TR game ! It is one of the best games that exists (or ever existed) and we have way 10 to many typical shooter/thug genre games now. We need more quality and deep adventure games like Tomb Raider, so more TR please ! :)
