Namco Bandai has emerged victorious from its legal battle with CD Projekt Red, gaining the European distribution rights to the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.

After Namco Bandai handled the PC launch of the game in May this year, CD Projekt Red opted to sign a new deal with THQ, handing them control of the Xbox 360 launch in Europe. Predictably, this resulted in the former publisher reaching for their lawyer button.

Now, as reported by Kotaku, a French judge has ruled in Namco Bandai's favour. CD Projekt Red now has 15 days to offer their old partners a similar deal to the one that was signed with THQ, with a €15,000 fine for each day that they go over that deadline.

Whether this will further delay the European release of the Xbox 360 version remains to be seen. It's currently due to come out early next year.

The new ruling won't effect US distribution, which is being handled by Warner Bros.

I'm just anticipating the day I get to play this game. Shame I don't have a powerful PC.

When a game really appeals to me it always seems to hit a snag like this. Same thing happened with Two Worlds II, it got delayed because of wrecked components on a container ship out of China, bad weather, ninjas, undead rabbits and an X-Factor overrun (if you believe everything you read on forums).

On the plus side, when a game really appeals to me and always seems to hit snags like this, it has always been well worth the waiting. Couple of more legal tussles and a couple of more delays and it'll be the best game ever.

Bloody hell - I'd much rather THQ have handled things - they have a much better track record than bloody Namco-Bandai. It is odd that Warner Bros aren't handling the European distribution as well, though - we hav seen they are more than capable in this regard, as well...

So long as it doesn't delay it too much... or I shall have to pick it up second hand on principle.
