That's the opinion of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO David Reeves, speaking of the upcoming launch of the PS3.
Speaking to CVG, Reeves said: "We have built up a certain brand equity over time since the launch of PlayStation in 1995 and PS2 in 2000 that the first five million are going to buy it, whatever it is, even it didn't have games." Although without question a little big headed, what Reeves says is probably true, with technology hungry consumers sure to bite off retailers' hands come November and the launch of the PlayStation 3.
But what of the games; after all, the PlayStation 3 is a video games console. Reeves says that the company will have a "portfolio of social gaming" for the launch window. SingStar may or may not be a launch title, but Reeves confirmed that it would hit stores before Christmas. EyeToy, however, isn't so close to release, with Reeves informing CVG that the game "is not playable at the moment, but it will come before March 2007."
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kazuo Hirai has already stated that around 15 titles will be available at launch, but which games is still mostly unknown. Reeves said that Insomniac's Resistance: Fall of Man will certainly be a launch title, but Heavenly Sword, Formula One, and Motorstorm are expected at some point after Christmas.
Reeves admitted that those buying the PlayStation 3 at launch are likely to be the people who "have also bought Xbox 360 and they have probably bought Nintendo Wii as well." He stated that the real test comes after "those hardcore gamers have bought PS3."
It's likely to be many months before a full day-one line-up of titles for the PlayStation 3 is announced, but we'll bring you the news as soon as we hear anything.

Didn't Sony's Execs Read History
Overconfidence is a folly. Hitler was over confident, the French were and a bit closer to home, both Nintendo and Sega thought they were infallible... all fell from grace.
Sony are complacent. People don't want a media hub first and a games console second, they want a games console first with the other bits and pieces as a welcome extra. Case in point? The PSX (ok so its not exactly the same but its the closest thing that exists).
(One note though; i'm not comparing Sony's beliefs to the dictators, just their overconfidence and evenutally fall from grace)
