EA has shot down rumours that it wants to buy Viacom's for sale Rock Band studio, Harmonix.

Speaking to Bloomberg, EA boss John Riccitiello explained why the publisher isn't interested.

"There is going to be a time when perception catches up with the facts," he said.

"I'm sure some smart investor will buy the business feeling that they can catch a falling knife. But more people have been cut trying to catch falling knives than have benefited from getting the timing exactly right."

VideoGamer.com Analysis

Given the slumping sales in the music video game genre, it's no surprise to hear EA distancing itself from Harmonix.

EA has a close relationship with the studio - it's distributed the Rock Band games from day one - but as a business it simply doesn't make sense.

"We're still out of favour," said Riccitiello. "Moves that look like I'm doubling down on yesterday would make it harder still to convince investors that tomorrow is the Promised Land."

If EA isn't interested in Harmonix then it also has to cast doubt over its future involvement with the Rock Band franchise.

Shame and it does not look like Dance Central has been that big either with The mini games collections taking centre stage.
Always liked Harmonix from Frequency onwards, even though I'm a bit rubbish at their games.
