It'll take around 80 hours to explore "every nook and cranny" of hotly anticipated Japanese role-playing game Resonance of Fate, publisher SEGA has revealed.
The western release of the game will also include all the Japanese voice over, allowing fans to play with the original Japanese and English subtitles.
Resonance of Fate is the latest RPG from Star Ocean and Infinite Undiscovery developer tri-Ace. It’s a steampunk adventure inspired by The Matrix, and replaces the traditional JRPG spells and big swords with guns. Lots of guns.
It’s set on a huge mechanised tower, with lovely luxurious bits for the upper class at the top and horrible slums at the bottom.
Speaking to VideoGamer.com at a recent press event in London, SEGA Europe localisation producer and the man in charge to tailoring Resonance of Fate to western tastes, Jun Yoshino, said that while it’s hard to quantify just how big the game world is, it’ll take around 80 hours to explore “every nook and cranny”.
“It’s hard to say how big it is. It is large. It is quite immense. If you’re speaking of time wise, to explore everything I would probably say about 80 hours, just to explore every nook and cranny of the game world.”
Yoshino also confirmed that the western release, planned for 360 and PS3 “early 2010”, will include the Japanese voice over, a move that’s sure to please hardcore JRPG fans.
“We will have English American voices,” he said. “Unfortunately, just to squeeze it in, because we wanted to keep the gap small, some things will be text. But we know that a lot of JRPG fans just play with the Japanese voice overs on with the subtitles anyway. The hardcore fans will definitely use that.
“We left that in as an option. Japanese voices will be on the western release as well. People have a choice. I’m sure a lot of the hardcore fans will want to play it in Japanese.”
Oh, and in case you were wondering, the Xbox 360 version will come on one disc.
