During the Tokyo Game Show last month, Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi revealed a new game called Resident Evil 5 Alternate Edition.

The title will come with new content and will support Sony's PS3 Motion Controller. The Resident Evil team is also "evaluating what they can do for 360 players as well".

In Japan this Alternate Edition will be released at retail as a new physical package, but the decision of how to release the new content in North America and Europe is not yet decided.

"Here in North America, and over there in Europe, Capcom is wrapping its collective head around the notion of how the new content will be delivered to RE faithful," explained Capcom's Chris Kramer on the Capcom Unity blog. "We're of two minds at the moment about delivery. Since you will ultimately be the people buying and playing this new content, we've decided that you should be the ones telling us how to make it available."

The choice is either to follow the Japanese way and release the title as a new game at retail, or release the new content as part of a DLC package.

Kramer concluded: "We're gonna let the poll run for a few weeks, then present the team with the results and our recommendations. Once we get it all sorted, we'll report back with an official announcement."

if you haven't played resi then it makes sense to release as new title all in the box so to speak. But for the people that have the game already it should just be a free download I feel I couldn't see it being something I would pay for.

Well, I recall the Director's Cut of the first Resi, shortly before 2 was released. That one even included the demo for 2, and was basically just the same game but with items moved around, some different puzzles, and some alternate camera angles. Nobody seemes to mind that being a new disc, although to be fair there was no DLC back then.

I guess it depends on what changes they make, really.
