Command & Conquer FPS Tiberium has been canned, EA has confirmed.
In a statement given to Joystiq overnight, EA's senior corporate communications manager Mariam Saghayer said the game was "not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label".
EA confirmed that "some individuals" at EA Los Angeles, home to the Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 development team, will be released following the shelving of the game, but it will "make every effort to place talented people on other projects".
When Tiberium was originally announced back in December 2007, it promised to blend FPS action with more RTS style tactical squad combat, and was slated for release in autumn 2008.
In July this year the game was delayed to EA's fiscal year 2010.
According to an internal memo from EA LA's Mike Verdu, given to Kotaku, The game had "fundamental design challenges from the start. We fought to correct the issues, but we were not successful; the game just isn't coming together well enough to meet our own quality expectations as well as those of our consumers".
