Q-Games details PixelJunk Monsters!
New title on its way to the PSN in January.
Dylan Cuthbert, president and executive producer at Q-Games, has announced the worldwide January release of PixelJunk Monsters!.
It's an RTS with a difference. It takes the simple RTS concept of building, researching and base defences and wraps it in distinct style and gameplay type designed to appeal to Japanese gamers.
One of the biggest changes over the traditional RTS is the removal of a roving cursor control system, instead the game uses a controllable character. This little chap runs around the play area collecting money and building defensive towers on the paths to your base.
There's no resource gathering as such, instead players collect the gems that monsters drop. These can be used for researching more advanced towers and upgrading existing towers. It'll also be possible to perform a dance in front of a tower - the longer you dance the more powerful the tower becomes.
The game features over 20 very different stages, each lovingly created with hand-drawn 2D visuals, although Cuthbert does note that the development team have gone "overboard on shader effects".
The game's scheduled for release worldwide on the PSN in January and Cuthbert hopes you'll buy his game giving him and his team the ability to "continue fiddling and experimenting with new concepts and styles".
