PES 2008 Review

PES 2008 on PS3 is for a next-gen console but it is not a next-gen game. You cannot ignore the fact that, for whatever reason, this is a poor effort from Konami.

Mufcmart	0 0 In response to Article » Go to 's original post I tried messing around with my display settings on my Ps3 and found something helped my game dramatically on an sdtv tele. If you select scart mode and then dont select 580i mode, in other words make sure you un-tick the box with 580i next to it so that you are only playing the game in Pal display mode. I found "wide view" to be pretty bad still but "normal long view" is still very playable and suffers next to no frame-rate drop. I can honestly say my frame-rate went from about 80% performance to about 95%, it still stutters slightly on crowded penalty areas. Also only 1 in 3 replays were slightly stuttery, the others were fine. Please note i did have stadium effects turned off while i played and i had also installed my game at the weekend. Commentary was on though as that made no difference to performance turned on or off. I urge people to try this as it does make the game a lot less stuttery. I also found that if you change your display settings on your ps3 to 4:3 mode even on a 16:8 tv the game takes on a slightly different view, player shapes look better in my opinion. Try turning "cross color reduction filter" on aswell and that "white mode" thing as i'm not sure if they made a difference but i have them marked as on so they could have contributed to a better frame-rate without me knowing. Please don't kick off with me if you see no improvement on your game but i can guarantee it helped on my game enough to make it playable, i am trying to help which is more than konami are doing at the moment. Went to a friends house last night and played the game and it was like day and night, played wonderfully...so need a HDTV if you wanna love the game!!! Reply

Kieran Smith	0 0 In response to Article » Go to 's original post of course ign are going to give it a good review. they are one of the main sponsors in the game! you think they are going to slate a game which they have prob paid millions to endorse?! i can safely say for the 1st time in 5 years that pro evo sucks. it is an awful game that is impossible to play online. i have 360 version and any time the ball is anywhere but midfield it will disappear and reappear randomly and players come from thin air. it's shocking. there should be some kind of quality control for games. if there was an advert on tv that said it could do something but couldn't it would be taken off the air. this is exactly what konami has done in shelving out this half finished product. promised something and not delivered. i feel like i have been robbed of £40 Reply

Konami think that a 7-4 game is more fun, well it's not. I like to actually be able to stop players walking past you as if you aren't there. Pure crap. Reply

How anyone can overlook the jerky frame rate is beyond me, i traded SKATE in for this INSULT, and now im seriously regretting it. Im sure there is a good game in there somewhere, ive been loyal since the PS1 version and reckon ive given konami at least £250 - £300 over the years with all the installments. All i expected were a few tweaks and some silky smooth graphics, along with updated teams etc. I cant go on with this, i feel like im betraying a loved one or something. Its breaking my heart to say this, but f**k you konami and i'll see you in hell Seabass! Gertcha Reply

Game updates on either PS3 or xbox360 should download and update automatically when you start up the game (if there is a patch to be had!). I don't think that there is a patch for either PS3/360 just yet. Give it a week or two. Report Reply

Very dissapointing, I was always a massive fan, always anti-fifa but this year I've cheat on my pro wife with a better model, which is Fifa. Report Reply

What The !	0 0 In response to Article » Go to 's original post Issues Issues and more issues. I have a generic brand LCD TV and have no issues playing other PS3 games in HD. (1080i) Even games that aren't 1080i are able to work. When I try to play PS2 games however they will not work and I have to change from component over to S-Video. ProEvo2008 has the same issue. When ever I want to play it I have to change the settings from 1080i component over to S-Video PAL and quickly swap over the cables. This straight away tells me it seems like the PS3 version is just based on the PS2 version. What an absolute joke. If I just swap over the cables and dont change the settings over to PAL (SD) the frame rate is laughable. (other PS2 games I play on S-Video without changing resolution have no issues) I guessing that most of the people here that arent complaining about the frame rate are probably playing it on SD PAL as when I do stuff around changing everything over the frame rate is better than on a higher resolution. For the money that has been spent this is an insult. If I wanted to play Pro Evo in SD PAL I would have just stuck with PES5. This is by far the worst version I have every played since starting on Winning 11 3 on the PS1. Talking to the Australian distributor to see how I can get my money back as this is a joke. PS. Not sure about the rest of the world but everyone I have played down here plays in Wide screen. Seems like everyone at Konami must do too as ProEvo2008 default is on Wide. Those who play on normal camera angle.... hahah thats funny ! Reply
