PES 2008 on PS3 is for a next-gen console but it is not a next-gen game. You cannot ignore the fact that, for whatever reason, this is a poor effort from Konami.

My mate got it in Wood Green, North London. Some shop had it out already. I am sad to say it suffers badly from slow frame rates in replays and during the game, pretty much jerky ALL the time. Online was a joke, my keeper had the ball in his arms, kicked it out, next thing it was back at his feet and in the net. Some craaaaazy lag.
Not sure if they will be able to cure this somehow through upgrades but right now I think fifa could be the one (which is a total first for me), but this is still tight as the pro feeeeels sooooo good to play and without the lag it would be puuurfect but you can't help but feel like you shouldn't have to put up with this kind of thing on the biggest and best of powerful machines.
When I used to dream of this game it was perfect, it was shiny and words couldn't describe it. I reckon pro 2009 will kick A but this has been slightly rushed.
Bonus: Commentary is actually pretty spot on. John Champion and Lawrenson keep up with the pace and it feels lots more atmospheric.
I might get Fifa but i'm sure something will schange. Somehow. It really has to.

Then Pro-g reviewed the ps3 version and called it out on the frame rate problems, awarding it a 7. So I got worried again...
Having spent all day taking england through the world cup I have to say the pro-g review is spot on, at first i didnt notice the slow down as i was just so happy to be playing pes with a dual shock again! The 360 pad just cannot compare for use with pes but slowly it dawned on my that there were considerable problems especially around the goal mouths. Until pro-g review the 360 version i guess we are still left wondering if there is little to choose between them but i doubt it.
So there i was pondering how ign had managed to score the game so highly when at full time in my first match below the score (5-1 to me if you care) was a huge advert for....IGN! I dont want to draw the obvious conclusions but surely it cannot be good for web-sites that review games to be advertising within said games? What is the point of in-game advertising? To get your brand seen, surely therefore reviewing a game low reduces the amount of potential people who will see the ad!?!
All very dissappointing in my opinion and I am not some massive fanboy or forum flamer but i do play alot of games and this trend worries me.
So off i go to trade pes ps3 for pes 360 but not every pes fan is lucky/sad as i am and owns both systems.
Fingers crossed for next year and props to Pro-g for integrity.

Take a look at this: http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/828/828327p2.html
thats a reputable site, GIVING IT 9.2/10. So how the **** do you give it a 7?
Is it better then the 360 one? Yes. Better then Fifa 08? Yes. So you give it a god awful 7?! What are you joking?
Even if they had submitted a HD version of Pes6, it would have got 9/10. So how the **** do they improve it and it gets 7?!
Either this reviewer needs to leave, or stop nitpicking.

"thats a reputable site, GIVING IT 9.2/10. So how the **** do you give it a 7?"
This may be a dangerous theory, but... it's his opinion? It is actually worth a seven? Take your pick. I say both.
"Is it better then the 360 one? Yes."
Ah right, so you're the one guy who has been saying that? Controls apart the 360 version creams the PS3 one. You know you're in trouble when Seabass himself expresses 'shock' at the slowdown on the PS3 version.
"Even if they had submitted a HD version of Pes6, it would have got 9/10."
Woah, hold up there - did you actually play the 360 version of Pro Evo 6? It was an abortion. That's your HD PES6 right there.
"Either this reviewer needs to leave, or stop nitpicking."
He is - in my opinion - one of the finest writers on a gaming website, and his nitpicking actually turns out to be rather helpful and, as much as it hurts PES fanboys, spot-on. I'd rather he didn't leave, thanks.

why?i think its not a whole hearted effort.the graphic is not something to be proud of.the commentary is better but theres no energy to it.im pretty sure trevor brookings can do better, all they need to do is change the script!they removed a few options like home away games.they fixed some things that doesnt need to be fix. i personally think the menu is so messed up, you end up pressing the wrong buttons if u are a pro evo fan.
as for slow down, its not a regular thing.i see slowdown sometimes, but it is still playable.playability is still there.it is still pro evo, which beats fifa every year including this year.yes i gave fifa a try, and no its not up to par with pro evo, even with this ps3 release.
the replay is something to be mad at.its jerky/ridicilously fast!
ooh btw YOU who think all pro evo players use default view, are you having a laugh? ive been in tournaments for the past 4 years and i use wide angle, so does most of the top players.

Think I might wait for PES8!! If what the reviewer says is true why put the game out? How can they mess it up after such along wait...Gutted!

Using my resources online, i was able to obtain a copy of PES2008 for the PC early on Sunday 21st Oct. I was really excited at how the frame-rates and fluency of the gameflow was, and how great the graphics was too... But then again, PC hardware set-ups are going to be head and shoulders above PS3 anyway, and with every month new graphics and processors coming out, the pc will only get updated even moreso.
The PS3 is a disappointment and to say the least, it seemed like Konami rushed the job on the PS3 version. Rightly said, they added stupid things like a diving button rather than zone in on the glitches and bugs that were creating difficulties in the flow of the game. Its unfortunate, but this game has gone back a few generations rather than up, and having played PES since the days of ISS on the snes, I'm thoroughly disappointed.
Time to play exclusively on the PC and retain to retain my love of PES, because the PS3 version is going back for a refund.

I wouldn't care for the slowdown, if it were a great game. But it's NOT. Before you go shouting, I must tell you the last FIFA I ever bought was FIFA 96, their last enjoyable version. Whereas, I 've bought ALL ISS/PES series except for 6, when things started to go down with KONAMI.
I got myself a PS3 especially for PES2008, only to be treated with a shock:
Take notes:
-Gameplay deteriorated immensely since PES5 (the best of the series). Improvement over PES6 is hardly considered an improvement since they messed up what was supposed to be a NEW (better) version. No more fluid gameplay, just weak, centered shots, balloon crosses and nazi referees...
-Editing is ridiculous. Kit editing, in specific, has gone south!!Only 12 types of kits? And faces?Where are the faces?Except for the modelled players, all the rest look alike, with the exception of a change in nose or eyebrows! If you want to change a player you have to COMPLETELY DRAW his face to be different from the others!
There are 20 extra teams to create, and then you CAN'T pick them in Master League Mode! It's just a laugh!
-Tournaments with friends?Yeah right! You cannot pick up the COM team and play against a friend, only human teams! If you wanna play a tournament with two friends, either you will sit back and watch them play with COM opponents (or play as co-players) or you have to be at least 8 people in the living-room!Please spare us..
You can't even pick your outfit in tournament for christ's sake. The HAD it and they pulled it back (just like many aspects of the game.
I suspect there's been a major change in the developing team composition during the last 2 years, or else KONAMI has gone mad and try to throw their reputation right to the garbage...
It's still better than FIFA, but since when do I have to pick from the lesser of two bads, paying a whopping 650€ for a disspaonting PS3/game combination?
