PES 2008 Review

PES 2008 on PS3 is for a next-gen console but it is not a next-gen game. You cannot ignore the fact that, for whatever reason, this is a poor effort from Konami.

And yes, some do mention the low frame-rate, but that it's not very noticable. I have watched in-game videos, which just look incredible. I've even talked to a guy, who has been playing this series from the very first game (a couple of games before I started), and he said that it was hands-down the best soccer-game ever across all platforms and series.. He didn't even comment on the low frame-rate. By the huge happiness glowing in his eyes and his extreme exitment to take the game home to his own livingroom and by what I else have red, I can only laugh at this review and the person who is responsible for it.. I can honestly say, that I will never visit this site again, when you clearly can't trust the people writing the reviews and news. I'll be honest to say, that this is my first time visiting this site, so you won't loose much on that acount.. Reply

rob	0 0 In response to Article » Go to 's original post just received the game today (2 days early from gameplay.co.uk) and i whole-heartedly agree with this review. i have owned every previous incarnation of pro evo on ps2 and never have i prefered fifa to one of them. i am a huge fan of the franchise. pro evo is the closest thing to proper football ever obtained. but this is THE most dissapointing version ever, especially considering that the next gen consoles promise so much. the framerate is awful. i cannot understand how people can claim they do not notice how bad it is. whats more, the great edit mode of pes6 on the ps2 has been ridiculously downgraded to a level where it is impossible to make good looking kits. there are only 12 shirt templates for gods sake! don't get me wrong, its still better than fifa (!), but its just such a dissapointment for all of us who were waiting expectantly for the game to justify owning a ps3. it seems we'll have to wait a little longer. i await to see whether the framerate on the 360 version is as bad as the ps3 version. Ahhh.. eyes glowing with extreme excitement, bless. Anways, I'm glad in the review text you don't hold back on pointing out the game flaws, but I am puzzled about the overall score. Isn't it a bit high given the criticisms? Just how broken does a game need to be to get a 6 or lower? Reply

Maybe at his house with his little cousands or something. Not only in the world tournament, but at every nationals at every country (you know, where the serious players really play) only the default camera is used and, if you can't use the map, tough luck. Get back to play with your little brother. On a side note, there's no point in playing with those "from the moon" cameras. Why would you buy a PS3 or 360 if your camera is so far from the field that the game looks like something from the 16 bits era? Reply

As for slow down I'm affriad i do have to agree with the reviewer after getting hold of a copy myself. Its unexceptable and does annoy the hell out of me. Espeically considering the overall speed of the game is increased! but if you can look past the slow down issues youll love the game if you loved the previous versions, the new quick free quick is even quicker the last years version and is a nice touch, but the game hasn't progressed as much as i would of liked. Wheather its worth buying fifa instead i cant really answer as i dont have it!! Reply

Andre, all serious Pro Evo gamers I've come across play on the 'wide' format. It's by far the most effective for passing play, particularly spotting forward runs. BTW all, sort yourselves out with your spelling. I can't take your comments serious with ridiculous spelling mistakes? You're not all British are you? Reply

Gus	0 0 In response to Article » Go to 's original post i bougth the game yesterday, im yeah im affraid to say that the frame rate is not the best, at least for what i expected for a PS3 game... love Proevolution´s had them all... but this one isn´t a next-gen game, not close... i saw what the PS3 can do and i was shocked to see that the guys from konami didn´t use half of the ps3 potential... replays - sucks and the crowds still sucks! it´s a PS2 game with good graphics... not a PS3 nextgen tell u that... and yeah i love this games but im not blind :S Reply

It's the only angle where you can see who you're passing to. I suggest you get a Super NES and a copy of Super Soccer. You'll be more at home there. Shame about Pro ev 2008 though. I've heard someone else on another site slating it as well. As a PS3 owner I'm starting to lose patience. Reply

Far be it from me for calling you a liar but to be honest, i find it hard to believe... this review seems to have played a pre-release version too, im confident sony/konami will take care of us through patches should the need arise. Overall, the review also seems to be a bit opinionated (i.e. bad music..opinion!!) and written by sum1 who went into the review with a negative attitude. Me? im making up my own mind tomorrow. Reply
