EA Games chief Frank Gibeau has confirmed that there is still life in the Mirrors Edge franchise, and that it could return in partnership with DICE's powerful new Frostbite 2 engine.

Speaking to Game Trailers TV, Gibeau said: "We're actively looking at how to bring it [Mirror's Edge] back in the right way. We love that franchise. The DICE guys really created something special the first time around. You've got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one and that's what we're working on."

In regards to a Frostbite 2/ Mirror's Edge amalgamation he stated: "You'll see that combination, I'm sure."

VideoGamer.com Analysis

DICE's Battlefield 3 and Blackbox's Need For Speed: The Run are currently using Frostbite 2 and EA will be hoping that it can reinvigorate the Mirror's Edge franchise. The original somewhat underperformed at retail when it was released back in November 2008.

Well Frostbite 2.0 looks the bollocks and Mirrors Edge was a great concept [not wonderfully executed], so I would happily play a sequel. I imagine it to be a multiplayer game.

I was half-expecting the on-foot sections of NFS: The Runs (or whatever nonsense its called) to feature Mirrors Edge-like parkour, rather than silly quicktime events.

Typical EA homogenisation - shoehoen EVERY franchise into one engine.
