A ‘small team’ is working on Mirror’s Edge 2, EA has confirmed.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at E3, the outspoken Patrick Soderlund, who as senior vice president at EA Games Europe oversees all European game development, said he was “excited” by what developer DICE, where he is based, will do with the game.

Mirror’s Edge divided opinion on its release in November 2008. While fans applauded the innovative Parkour-inspired first-person action, critics slammed the game for its short length and poor storyline.

When asked for an update on the future of the IP, Soderlund told us: “Mirror’s Edge was a risky move. It was a bold move, a very innovative and inspiring move. The game wasn’t perfect by any means. We would have liked the game to sell better even though the game has sold better than most people think.”

He added: “You will see another Mirror’s Edge for sure. It’s just a matter of when that time is and what we do with it. We have a small team on it and I’m excited about what we do.”

Soderlund’s comments are the first confirmation that a sequel is in development. Up to this point the game had only been mentioned by EA as a title in consideration. During a December 2008 conference call EA CEO John Riccitiello assured fans that the company wasn’t giving up on the IP, despite less than stellar sales.

As reported by Edge, Riccitiello said: "Mirror's Edge is one that was very strongly reviewed, that one's going to go forward. We're probably going to look into some issues around the design to make sure strong IP is married with strong business."

Unfortunately Soderlund couldn't offer any other details or a possible release date on the game.

FR3SHGamer the reason why it was done in first person was to give people the feel of being in the shoes and to give you a feel of speed doing that in 3rd person is very difficult so they should just keep with first person

On another note they need to delve deeper into faiths path to give it a bit more backbone so it would be great for gamers to be able to team up 4 player co-op and not the same moves like alot of people mention if they did four player co-op maybe they could incorporate some team based moves like one person gives another a boost to reach higher places also team based fights like while one does a sliding kick another could be doing a jump kick on the same person to dispatch them quicker i also do think they should do a sort of free roam thing like maybe after you complete story mode you can unlock a free roam mode which lets you explore the city with up to 8 friends everyone using a custome made runner. cops could be a online option too in free roam you could turn cops on and off. Plus it would be good to put some competitive online game modes like a couple ive read on here cops and runners and tag and i think another good feature would be a blend feature instead of running across rooftops all the time why not get down to ground level and blend in with the people on the streets

i like that idea but i think this idea could be expanded for co-op instead of 2 runners why not 3 then you can have a co-op drop in drop out system where the host plays faith and the other 3 young runners are played by guests

This makes me very happy... I loved the zenny stylized far out mirrors edge gameplay and dlc. More floating cubes designed by hip new drug addicts would be great. The city is brilliant and i love how it is seen through the eyes of a no nonsense runner, highlighted and filtered, the music that goes with the style. The game makes me feel great. If only cities were so beautiful and i could wear mirrors edge filter glasses... and there were conveniently placed drain pipes, zipwires and other things that turn red to get to the top.

What i'd like to see is a look into the past, more light hearted periods to give the player a break from being shot at, like racing or following other runners, courier assignments in free roam, high risk street level blending, an extremely detailed city down to the last beautifully stained gutter and unexplainably clean hd rendered litter pile. Some light dustings of cloud scream across the sky occasionally, dynamic. Night and day.. (a day could last an hour or so).
Multiplayer: Gamemodes like Tag! (where one player is It and is armed with a taser. He has to taser somebody. Upon sucess he drops the taser and runs away. When the unfortunate person recovers he gets the taser. If somebody falls off the edge of a building to their extremely cinematic legs-through-head death they become it) Create a runner for online modes with a selection of clingy tees and tanktops, joggers, trainers, tattoos, races, face tweaking.
Epic menu similar to ME 1

Fast travel to different parts of city. To start quest you have to go to quest location. That's when you'll find most cops and the heat is on.

Course i'd rather it not be to generic a freeroam game, Race, Courrier, Main Missions, Collectables... Something new. Could be nice having a Altair style Syncronization with a revolve around camera and faith standing with one hand on hip.

Sorry for the essay. I've got more.

If I wanted to play with other people I'd got outside. Videogames are for me time only. I never want to play any of my games online - and then have to pay ridiculous fees just to keep playing.

Guns are one of the main things I look forward to getting in ME. I noticed that when I shoot people, I can finally stop running.

i would like to see a multiplayer aspect, possibly a game of tag which would be played local or online. add length to the storyline and make more ways to overcome things instead of tediously trying to get past a small horde of gaurds.

in ME2 i wana c more excentric pure time trials, maybe even as races with ppl online. They were superb bt i thought they were laking. i want more elaborate evasion techniques, instead of a vault; kong, instead of a 180 ;a 360,also instead of coiling up to get farther do a gainer or front flip to get a more free flow uban parkour feel. With more elusive and creative options everyone will develope there own unique running styles, which should b captured wit a replay to play bak and share with u friends. more characters would be sweet too.

really good ideas, i hope they can put all that in cos it would be the best game ever! i think making it more like real life parkour would be really good because you would get a greater sense of freedom and choice, i just cant wait for the game to come out.

i would also love to see the use of two new tranies. i think that would be cool. this might make the game more complicated.. but for the *hard*setting maybe you could incorporate some sort of injury system. what i mean is that if you land wrong, or dont do a skill roll when you should, maybe something that says for example (left foot sprang) it would be a certain amount of time until you could run at full speed again. just a suggestion. also some new take downs would be nice, and maybe some sort of a guide of how to do them. in the last game it took me forever to figure out how to do certain moves

If you do that, you change the whole meaning of the game. Buy GTA if you want a game like that.

I would very much like to see some more delivery missions. Either in another mode, or part of the story. I think if we have free roam it'll end up being like GTA or Red Dead Redemption, and I just don't think that will make the game any better. Online gameplay would be nice, as would additional runners, but I think they were toying with the idea of creating a few games later on dealing with some other characters. A longer story line is definitely necessary in my opinion, and I think I'd like to see some night-time rain action, even if it's just in a cut scene.
