A ‘small team’ is working on Mirror’s Edge 2, EA has confirmed.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at E3, the outspoken Patrick Soderlund, who as senior vice president at EA Games Europe oversees all European game development, said he was “excited” by what developer DICE, where he is based, will do with the game.

Mirror’s Edge divided opinion on its release in November 2008. While fans applauded the innovative Parkour-inspired first-person action, critics slammed the game for its short length and poor storyline.

When asked for an update on the future of the IP, Soderlund told us: “Mirror’s Edge was a risky move. It was a bold move, a very innovative and inspiring move. The game wasn’t perfect by any means. We would have liked the game to sell better even though the game has sold better than most people think.”

He added: “You will see another Mirror’s Edge for sure. It’s just a matter of when that time is and what we do with it. We have a small team on it and I’m excited about what we do.”

Soderlund’s comments are the first confirmation that a sequel is in development. Up to this point the game had only been mentioned by EA as a title in consideration. During a December 2008 conference call EA CEO John Riccitiello assured fans that the company wasn’t giving up on the IP, despite less than stellar sales.

As reported by Edge, Riccitiello said: "Mirror's Edge is one that was very strongly reviewed, that one's going to go forward. We're probably going to look into some issues around the design to make sure strong IP is married with strong business."

Unfortunately Soderlund couldn't offer any other details or a possible release date on the game.

I think that if online co-op multi. you could add a game that would be a free for al wich involved the players to race for a suit case, box, ect. and each time a player picked it up a new one spawn somewhere else and the process repeats and the first one to get 10 wins

what would be cool in ME2 is that faith some times remeber her history before she became runner and we can play it. perhaps in black n white but with runner-vision.

Now split screen co-op. The problem with this is that Runners, to me at least, are solitary figures that more or less operate alone, except for guides, and during transfers of “deliveries”. Also Runners ‘running’ together have a better chance of being caught. So, while it wouldn’t hurt to have split screen co-op, having it as the main storyline would, in my eyes, not be as good as having single person storyline, maybe having both and them being different storylines, that would be kind of cool, just an opinion though.

Now the idea of a longer story line and mini games, Yes, Yes, and once more Yes, the first ME was great, however having a longer storyline would make it better, also mini games never hurt anyone and I think would be a welcome addition to the game. When you get tired of playing the story line you can take a break and destroy your friends or the AI in mini games.

Now about creating your own character, the problem that I see with this is that the game is spoken there are no text boxes, I like the game this way, because if you create your own character then you have to name him/her, and then that character cannot talk, because, in my eyes a voice is married to a certain character and if a character is designed then the character can’t have a voice because the two, being the character and voice, weren’t chosen for each other, and I really like all of the characters being able to talk.

On the idea of new characters, I think that this would be great to have more new characters in the next ME. To me the first ME there were a good number of characters but some of them are now dead, so they need to incorporate some new characters into the next story line. However having new playable characters seems cool, but I would like to keep following Faith in her fight against the city, maybe have her sister become a runner, that might be cool. Having a boy in the story line as a new playable character would be cool but might be a bit of a drag to learn to “love” a new character. Also I’ve seen this a few times in the posts, and that is that people want Faith to manage the Runners. My response to this is that Merc did not manage all the Runners, what I saw and heard said a few times in the game, is that Merc managed Faith and Cel, and then there were other Runner managers who took care of the other Runners, kind of like small families, and Merc is dead and Cel is with the “bad guys” now. So everyone in her small “family” is dead.

Now the concept of a free world I think this would be kind of cool, but we have to remember that it the world is to open then it wouldn’t really be like you have to find a certain path to get somewhere, now a larger world with more alternate routes would be cool, but we can’t get to crazy with the openness of the world. Just as a side though what could happen is there could be the missions where there are only a couple of ways to get to the end, and then have something like a free world search or something like that where you can just explore and have fun. This is just a side thought I still stick to the idea of it being like the first ME, however a larger world would be fun.

The problem with roller blades in this game is there physical impossibility, for example, when you run along a crane, jump to a set of I beams two stories down, and then jump onto a large crate 3 or 4 stories down, with shoes on it is possible, with roller blades not only impractical, and extremely dangerous, it is also a physically impossible in my eyes. Also vehicles, NOOOOO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, and further more, NO, I love this game because it is different from all of the other shooter, and racing games out there and adding vehicles would just make it like all the other games out there, so no vehicles.
