The Metal Gear Solid series is famous for its cutscenes, MGS2 has one that ran to around 45 minutes, but in the latest and possibly final game in the Solid Snake saga gamers will need to prepare themselves for cutscenes approaching movie runtimes.

PSW magazine has told CVG that the game has several cutscenes that near the 90 minute mark, with the story said to be massive - described as the "videogame equivalent of all three Godfather movies".

The good news is that if you're coming to the end of a long gaming session and suddenly find yourself in a 90 minute cutscene it can be paused or skipped.

Issue 108 of PSW is on sale now and Metal Gear Solid 4 is scheduled for release on June 12.

The guy who wrote the review for UK Playstation magazine and gave it the 10/10 score said that the gameplay-to-cutscene ratio was about 2:1, and also that it took him about 29 hours to complete. That means there's about 10 hours of cutscenes, meaning that there will be a few 90-minute scenes as opposed to all of them adding up to 90 minutes.

I realize that not everyone will be thrilled at this, but I actually am. This game is the reason I bought a PS3--I gotta see how the story ends. The fact that Kojima san is giving me as much story as can possibly fit on a Blu-Ray disc makes me quite happy. If you don't like games with a lot of cutscenes or story then don't bother, but don't complain either, no one is making you play it.

Soon, games will evolve until the entire experience is one long cut scene. They shall be called movies and command vast budgets and be shown in dedicated projection rooms for public consumption.

OR developers will finally realise that some glitzy cut scene does NOT EQUAL A GOOD GAME.

The wording of the original PSW article is a little fuzzy to be honest, and it could be taken as saying that all the cutscenes in the game total 90 minutes rather than there being a single 90-minute cutscene.
