The Metal Gear Solid creator believes the problematic Konami-wide online policy has hurt Metal Gear Online.
Hideo Kojima, head of Kojima Productions, has blamed Konami's company wide online policy (Konami ID and Game ID) for the lack of players taking part in Metal Gear Online.
Speaking to 1UP, the Metal Gear Solid creator admitted he's not happy with the amount of players playing Metal Gear Online and feels Konami has to address the problems with the Konami ID and Game ID registration process.
"Honestly, officially, I can't say anything on Konami ID and Game ID. It's a company policy. But frankly speaking, the idea wasn't a very good one," said Kojima. "The fact is that Konami's direction was that we create a Game ID and Konami ID for the online components, and now we're seeing that it's not working so well, and we have to think about how to turn it around."
Kojima added that it is as problem the publisher is aware of and is working on a solution.
"I assure you that we understand the problems. We can look at the figures, and we can see what's going wrong. A lot of people buy a lot of stuff online in MGO, but we know what the problems are, and as a company we have to turn things around.
"We aren't blind. At company meetings we know this is a problem, and we are working on it. Obviously, we have a lot of hardcore online gamers working for us, and we know what makes a good online game. So rest assured [that] we are working on this."

Put it on XboxLive = Problem solved ;)
Before the Sony Defence Force/fanboys kick off - please note the smiley - The statement was said in jest.
Tis a shame that such a iconic game/franchise has had its Online component ruined by a dreadful Konami setup. If only Sony had gone down the 'unified service' route, everything would have been so much better.
Edit: I'm curious, does anyone have any figures on how many people are actually playing MGO?

It's not really the servers that are the problem, its the annoying sign up and signing in, on a par with seperate friends codes for Wii games.
But, yes, the unified service idea has been good for MS, though even that causes problems when developers want to go down their own route (Frontlines). For the most part it works well, though.
