The Westernisation of Metal Gear Solid 5
Hideo Kojima's starting from 'zero' in 2009. Find out what that means for Metal Gear Solid 5 inside.

So, legendary Japanese developer Hideo Kojima is starting from "zero" in 2009, and wants Kojima Productions on an equal footing with western studios. From the great man himself: "We're currently reviewing everything - from the team structure to tools and our staff - in order to make Kojima Productions a team that can challenge foreign creators and software houses. So, because of that, 2009 is going to be a very important year for us.
"I've come to understand that the way we've made games up until now won't translate globally, and I've come to think that I need to make Kojima Productions a team that can compete alongside the rest of the world.
"I've thought a lot about how Western games have been winning, looking it from a global perspective, and there are things that I've noticed. So 2009 will be a year of change, a year where we start from zero again.
"With games, you've got to use cutting-edge techniques, and doing so costs money - so I don't think you can make games that just appeal to the Japanese market. So, 2009 will see us continuing to think how to create a team that can take on the world."
Interesting words indeed. The big question is, what does this mean for Metal Gear Solid 5, a game Kojima himself has confirmed he is already thinking about? Is this the beginning of the Westernification of Metal Gear? What does that even mean? We've donned our Octocamo suit and climbed into our cardboard box to bring you what we reckon Kojima's words mean for the Metal Gear Solid franchise and its army of fans.
5. Metal Gear Solid 5 will be released for the Nintendo Wii

That's right Metal Gear fans, we said the Wii. So successful is Nintendo's motion-sensing phenomenon that it simply can't be ignored by any publisher or developer that wishes to not only remain profitable, but survive, especially in times of recession. Now obviously the Metal Gear games as we know and love them won't be an appropriate fit for the graphics-light Wii, so we're not suggesting Kojima will attempt to cram the next-gen version of MGS5 into the family-friendly console. Instead, Kojima will create a separate team within Kojima Productions dedicated to making the most of the Wii Remote's potential. Remember, by then the Wii MotionPlus add-on will be out, which should ensure much more accurate and less frustrating waggling. We expect a game built from the ground up for the Wii, one that is intended to compliment the next-gen version, not copy it, with a separate plot and perhaps a different central character. It'll have mini-games, yes, and poorer graphics, but it'll be a Metal Gear game at heart, and, dare we say it, could actually be really good.

I'm an inspired game developer currently in college studying and about to start an internship with a small studio. I prize a complicated, but yet very well put together plot. Graphics is second to last on my list. Physics being third. I believe in order for a game to be a game in today's world, it needs to be exciting, fun, and better yet, immersible.
When I play a game that has good game play, excellent to ok graphics, and still makes me feel like I'm hero in the game. I feel that it is the best game ever. The music, the textures, materials, and the way the game moves all combined together can create real emotions.
When I watch romance to horror movies, I never really feel like I'm actually there, besides the big screen action. Sure it's scary and immersible, but when you leave that theater, that's it. Probably takes about at top 2 days to get that feeling out, but a game is so much more when done correctly. I've played games that brought tears to my eyes, gave me really good ways about thinking on life, and very very funny aptitudes.
Take for example in MGS3. Snake is reluctant to be with EVA, not because he doesn't trust her, but because of his relationship with The Boss. You always see him in pain when she comes up. At the end of the game when you are standing above her with the patriot in your hands. The flowers around you, massive and distinct, resemble the emotion at hand, a beautiful but yet sorrowful event... You pull the trigger and the flowers turn red... Very beautiful to me if I must say
At the ending cut-scene which is phenomenally made, brought out so much emotion. Then snake visits her grave... A man like him will never cry, but even he couldn't help but shed one tear.
This is what I love in games and if someone is blind to this then I call them pathetic humans. You can have your slashers and big gun games, I love them too, but if can't appreciate TRUE art, then your worthless in my eyes.
The Point of this post is to say, games are turning into story-less, artless attractions. The main reason I want to make games and have gone as far as I have, is to be able to express what I feel in games like this in my creations, and still having a fun element. I want everyone to know that Games are not like they were 15 years ago, they are really starting to turn into works of art, and I want to continue that...

Konami have opened a new website, www.kojima.jp/kojima_pro/next
MGS4, was designed for the PS3, neither Microsoft nor Ninty have had a stand alone MGS title on their main consoles, Twin Snakes was a Remake, and Substance was a straight Port of MGS2

Wake up Wesley, the Metal Gear SOLID series is finished with. If you can't even get THAT information figured out then (which you'd know if you spent 5 minutes researching) then how on earth can anything else be considered seriously?

i also wouldnt mind if they base another mg game on raiden as a prequel to mgs4 , u know wat was he up to inbetween 2 and 4, i kind liked raiden as a character.
also wana no if they are gona make a raiden suit downloadable to go with the face mask all, if they are gona make anymore camo downloads ive been waiting for months the podcast giv us more snake customizations
i know that they remade mgs1 for the game cube, is there ne1 else out there that thinks that they should remake mgs1_2 and 3 for the ps3 i mean all great games but i like to go back and play those but the graphics are so sh*t now im a mgs1 fan and i will giv up ne thing to hav mgs1 on ps3 with mgs4 graphics, but they'll hav to giv snake the abilities that he has in mgs4 , such as
* choking and slicing throats
* first person shooter
* diving from side to side
