Black Swan composer to score Mass Effect 3
Says composing for games is more like being a DJ.
Clint Mansell, composer on current critical darling Black Swan, is to score EA and BioWare's Mass Effect 2. Mansell revealed his involvement in an interview with The Quietus.
"I'm doing a video game this year actually. Mass Effect 3," said Mansell.
"As I was saying about Public Enemy and re-working old hip-hop tunes for Requiem, and kind of re-working old ballet tunes for Black Swan, with something like Mass Effect you're more like a DJ, with all these elements," he added. "You've got the holding pattern, then the big explosion where you need the score to kick in. Then you need to take it off on a tangent. You've got all these different elements that change depending on what the player does. You have to figure out an overall symphony, but be able to break it down into component parts. You can bring the pain when required."
VideoGamer.com Analysis
Clint Mansell is one of the hottest composers in the film business at the moment, having worked on The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream and Moon before Black Swan. His work will next be heard in Jake Gyllenhaal film, Source Code.

He's done as you said Moon and also The Fountain.
If you just listen to his score for The Fountain you will see how good he is fella :)
He's also done Doom which was based on the videogame of course, so he's more than qualified to me...shame about the film though lol

Apparently he scored 'Moon' (2009) which was scifi, so I'm going to rent that and see what he can do. The Requiem is obviously a great piece of music, but that's not what I'm looking for.

Yes all very good films
You mean the composer?
Yes possibly the best, but I also rate Thomas Newman very highly as well. Hans "Zim" Zimmer is everyones fav though.
His best score was for The Fountain in my view but everyone will be more aware for his score for Requiem For A Dream, which is used in loads of ad's, trailers and sport games.
