Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has released a statement confirming that LittleBigPlanet is to miss its planned October 24 UK release date, but is currently unable to confirm exactly when the game will now be available.

"During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur'an," explained the statement from SCEE. "We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused.

"We will confirm the new launch date shortly."

Earlier today retailer Zavvi sent out an email to its customers informing the of the game's slip from October 24. The retailer's website now lists a November 14 release date.

A pain, but still plenty to play and I don't think it'll be delayed long.

Cheers for the links Rogue Soul, got a great deal of background from reading them. GTAIV and COD4 both ran into trouble with United Arab Emirates I believe and the solution there was simply for UAE to ban both games.

Seems really odd that Sony have chosen to take the burden of changing the game upon themselves rather than simply saying "If it offends you, don't buy it." as others have commented elsewhere. (I'm sure Sony could word it a little more sensitively).

I have to give Sony some credit for going to such lengths to please those offended, even if as a result it offends even more people by delaying the game.

Official Statement on Official Blog - http://threespeech.com/blog/2008/10/...ial-statement/ - the delay is worldwide.

The thread that sparked it all off on the official Sony forum:

Can't wait to see how many sacrilegeous themed levels are now going to appear when LBP finally releases. Anyone got a good interior shot of Manchester Cathedral for a wild west theme? Oh wait, I'll get some Resistance screenshots...

For PS3 owners, don't despair! Things to keep you busy until LBP:

Dead Space (Oct 24th)
Far Cry 2 (Oct 24th)
Midnight Club: Los Angeles (Oct 24th)
Fallout 3 (Oct 31st)
Legendary (Oct 31st)
Valkyria Chronicles (Oct 31st)
Motorstorm (Nov 7th)
Tom Clancy's End War (Nov 7th)
Call of Duty: World at War (Nov 14th)
Mirror's Edge (Nov 14th)
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (Nov 21st)
Need For Speed: Undercover (Nov 21st)

etc.

Well thats just great. I received that email from zavvi yesterday but then received one today saying that the email was an error and that the release date of Oct 24th stands. I'm so confused! Does this mean us europeans will miss out on the downloadable outfits at launch?
