Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony's head of public relations, David Wilson, has revealed that the platform holder is "pleased" by both the critical reception and commercial sales for Media Molecule's PS3 exclusive title LittleBigPlanet.

LittleBigPlanet was released in the UK on November 5, following a last minute delay because of inappropriate lyrics found in a track used in the game. The game entered the All Formats All Prices UK chart at No.4, but dropped to No.19 on its second week.

"We're really pleased with the initial reaction to LittleBigPlanet - it has been our highest scoring game ever I believe with a Metacritic score of 95 and a huge list of 10/10s or 100 per cent scores," said Wilson.

Wilson added: "We are also pleased with its commercial performance. In other times of the year it would be a clear number one - so you have to put the chart in context. This is an incredibly volatile time of year and the chart reflects that - November 7 saw 47 titles released on that one day alone including many big hitters with Christmas number one aspirations. Look at the chart this week - the top four are all brand new entries."

Wilson also noted that the game was the best-selling new IP on its launch week, only bettered in the chart by sequels Gears of War 2, FIFA 09 and Fallout 3.

While the game has gotten off to a solid start, Wilson also noted the bulk of its marketing is still to come, including a "six figure TV advertising campaign" which won't begin until December.
