LittleBigPlanet Features

For:PS3  Also On: PSP Release Date: 23 October 2008

Take note Media Molecule. We want these features in the sequel.

LittleBigPlanet is one of the best games available for the PlayStation 3 and one of the best games of 2008, but it's not without its flaws and omissions. With a game this ambitious there were always going to be a few things that didn't make the cut, so we've put our heads together to figure out just what we want to see in the inevitable LBP sequel. Read on for our thoughts on what needs to be changed to the core gameplay and what would make the level creation tools even better.

10. PSP integration

What use are all these tools if you have to stop whenever you leave the house or the TV is in use? With the PSP version of LittleBigPlanet (if Sony has any sense this has to happen) we want to be able to move our PS3 game and creations over to the handheld, allowing us to keep creating wherever we might be. It won't be simple, seeing as the PSP has only a fraction of the power of the PS3, but we really hope Media Molecule and Sony can pull it off. This would not only help out the PS3 sequel but give the PSP a much needed shot in the arm.

9. A story

Stephen Fry provided a wonderful voice over for LittleBigPlanet, but the actual story was rather weak, with levels feeling like they had been designed to work individually with tenuous links quickly crafted afterwards. We don't expect a story so epic it wouldn't seem out of place in the next Square-Enix RPG, but something to go hand in hand with the presumably rather jolly adventure your sackboy will be going on would be more than welcome. Perhaps Media Molecule would be better off creating a series of short adventures, with each level a story separate from the rest. Some ultra cute sackboy cutscenes wouldn't go amiss either.

me and my bro LOVE creting levels! but there are a few objects that need to be addressed like the circle should beable to flip so you can make a barrel. example in LBP 1 you cant make a gun the barrel would have to be square not round. also some kind of magnet switch key or material.

With the new paint tool, i think it should have a brush, and i "can of paint" so you can make a whole object one color instead of stickering it a hundred times or trying to paint the whole thing with a brush.

ZOOMing in and out when creating!! this makes me mad. when i'm trying to zoom into one spot and when you go to select another object it automaticlly zooms out. GRRR fix please! make it so you have to manunally zoom. like if you click on the L3 or R3 you can ZOOM in and out without needing to exit out of the popit menu. NOW THAT WOULD ROCK!! and the camera should be able to rotate 360 degrees.

1. Sling Shot - The player is able to shot a sling shot just like the Paintenator with the R1 button. However, the must hold onto the R1 button as to grab the target shot at and then swing from place A to B or whilst the player is at the peak of the swing the player can release the R1 button and hold it back down to shoot out directing it with the right thumb stick and swing again.

2. Transition - As you all know(well most who have played LBP) have realised it can be tricky to navigate through the 3 'layer depths' of the game levels, especially when on a vehicle or trying to jump down stairs. So the idea was obviously to make it easier to change layers without having to bash the left thumb stick downwards AND another element or the most prominent would to be have connecting transition when creating loop-d-loops which would be so cool in my eyes.

3. Anti-Gravity/Bullet Time - O.k, so Little Big Planet already has Anti-Gravity material that can defy the law of physics, but what they do not have is Anti-Gravity Space. Where the creator can define a certain amount of space by either using markers or material that is only visible during Create Mode. Then when the player enters the zone defined by the creator, the players mobility and everything inside of it floats around but arms, head and feet move the same. Now another cool aspect of this can be created via the settings where by when an object or player enters the zone defined the player and or object slows down as to create bullet time. Now that would be insane.

These ideas taken into account could take this game even further than has done now, so many amazing user generated levels will be created it most likely cause a crash on the system

You should add one more thing to your list...

You know when you are holding on to something with the "R1" trigger and the "L1" trigger is free to do anything. They should make it so that "R1" and "L1" both be grab because if you're hanging on a wall and at the same time want to keep like a ball with you, you would have two triggers to use. Plus I don't want to change this game to much just adding on one more button won't change that much. Plus i also like your ideas and everyone else that contributed.

I really don't know how to call it, so I'll just say it this way: I think that one of the weapons of Sackboy could be that thing that Ada uses in Redient Evil 4, which she uses to go from one place to another, that "weapon" to grab from stuff, the one which she uses to hang from roofs and that stuff. Meh, if you got what I meant, congratulations :D

Oh, and they could take some ideas from the Worm Game.

Along with #5 "Machinima tools" they should add youtube support, where you could edit your video and past it directly to youtube from your PS3... (Some PS3 games already have this, yet im guessing its hard to do sense not many try...

Checkpoint system to me is ok, and probably for the 'core' gamer they could have templates of already created levels with items in there for the 'core' gamer.

Very good ideas as well.

my 9 year old son beat the Bunker his first day of playing the game. there is nothing wrong with the checkpoint system.
most of your suggestions can be incorporated into LBP without a need for a sequel. MM, specifically Alex Evans, has always said that they will constantly be on the lookout for what people want as improvements and DLC go. Anyone with these kinds of suggestions should write MM an email or post on the official LBP forum.

All good, I would love to see the following;

1.) Flip jumping.

2.) Option to change on the fly to a 3rd person view from 1st person perspective (if that makes sense). Behind Sackboy/girl.

3.) The ability to stand on each others shoulders or stack on top of each other. I think this would be a lot of fun and add some more functions to the co-op side.

I agree with point #2. Level creation as part of the core game would be great.

A story??!!
Dont be ridiculous.
id say - 3D as opposed to 2D or 2.5D or whatever they call it
customisable costumes
clans/groups
game mode templates (eg, racer, platformer, shooter)

and more..

Interesting suggestions although I have heard MM saying they dont plan on doing a sequel but releasing content to download. Personally I would like them to integrate the creation tools within levels as it would make it more fun,
as to be honest i haven't bothered trying to create my own level due to consumption and the fact it is quite boring.

Good article, and I mostly agree (particularly with the checkpointing and custom painting). However, despite all LBP's little irritants when you're playing three people online there's no other game like it, or as fun as it. In my humble opinion.
