Welcome to the Rumour mill, VideoGamer.com's run-down of the big rumours currently doing the rounds in the video game industry. Every week we'll hunt down the juiciest stories and give our opinion on how legit they are. So, whether you want the ridiculous or the plausible, read on.

Thief sequel in development at Eidos

The Rumour: Eidos Montreal is working on a new game in the Thief series. The game is still a way off from release though, with development only starting this year. It's presumed to be for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Verdict: With Eidos already having announced development of a new Deus Ex, there aren't many more big properties the publisher has left to take into this new generation. Thief has a tonne of fans and, based on the success of other older properties making their way to new consoles, that should see the game find considerable sales on its release, whenever that might be.

Plausibility rating: 3/5

Motion controller for Xbox 360

wii remote1 -

The Rumour: Microsoft is working with Rare on a new motion controller for the Xbox 360. It will function independently to other controllers (no linking up to other peripherals here) and work in conjunction with plenty of new tailored software. Rare has been handling the development of the Mii-like characters that you'll be able to create and use in all the supported games. Out at the end of this year.

Verdict: This rumour has been doing the rounds for months, although it gained some credibility when MTV posted a story detailing the new peripheral. Usually we'd be quick to point out that mainstream video game coverage is shaky at best, but in this case the news comes from former 1up News Editor and now Reporter for MTV Multiplayer Patrick Klepek. Still not 100% convinced, but it could happen.

Plausibility rating: 3/5

LittleBigPlanet coming to PSP

LittleBigPlanet screenshot

The Rumour: The stunning looking LittleBigPlanet is shaping up to be one of the PlayStation 3's big games this Holiday, but it seems it might not be restricted to just Sony's latest console. According to CVG, the game is also heading to the PSP, with of Sony's Liverpool Studio handling development.

Verdict: Details are completely non-existent at this stage, with little more than confirmation from a source that the game is coming to the PSP. It does seem like a perfect fit though, perhaps allowing you to continue making levels while on the move, and later inserting them into your PS3 game. We'd wager that we won't be seeing the PSP game at the same time as the PS3 game, but a few months down the line seems very likely.

Plausibility rating: 3/5

EA to delay GTA 4

Grand Theft Auto IV screenshot

The Rumour: It's been suggested that EA, if it completes the acquisition of Take-Two, will hold back the release of GTA 4 until later in the year. Despite being pretty much finished, the game would be much more successful if released during the traditional busy holiday period.

Verdict: This all stems from Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, who was quoted saying, "I think if EA takes over Take-Two they have an economic incentive to delay [Grand Theft Auto IV]." Of course, this led to shouts of a GTA 4 delay and fans everywhere panicking. The truth is that it's looking highly likely that EA won't be able to take over Take-Two before the launch of GTA 4, and even if it did, the company hasn't even suggested a delay to their would-be crown jewel is on the cards.

Plausibility rating: 1/5

It presents the facts for and against the plausibility of each rumour. If they equal out, there can be no well informed prediction!

the article is boring when 3/4 of the predictions have the (3/5) plausibility ratings which just indicates that the writer is basically playing it safe and is on the fence about what's going to happen...waste of time
