Killzone 2 was ok, Killzone 3 was great and even the move controls were good. Havent played the first.

But what it did do, and will always be remembered mostly for, is detailed reload animations. At least those made it past the final cut.

The phrase: 'coulda, shoulda, woulda' springs to mind. It does seem very odd that they would remove the gameplay features that you mention - unless they were too intensive for the earlier console to handle on a large scale, and were more a tech demo than anything else. Either way, that price does seem really rather steep, given that KZ3 alone can be had for a pittance these days. TU for the interesting info!

The previews included a live firing range where you could shoot at targets or, with a rocket launcher, cause some major terrain deformation to the mountains a couple of miles off in the distance.
The beta included, in multiplayer "single player practice" mode, the most sinister squad AI routines ever devised or seen running on a PS2. The enemy were absolutely lethal, highly intelligent and were quite capable of flanking, providing cover for squad mates as they closed in on your position, making tactical use of terrain/high ground and working in co-ordination to devastating effect.
Nothing like it had ever been seen before, but to Killzone's detriment and everlasting chagrin neither of these features made it into the final game. If they had... well, who knows. But anyway, that's where the hype came from. I was on the PS2 beta tests and previewed Killzone a year before launch and Halo-beater didn't seem adequate enough, it was shaping up to be an everything-beater.
