Sony: No Killzone 2 Collector's Edition

Guerrilla Games putting effort into 'creating this masterpiece of a game' instead.

There will be no Collector's Edition of hotly-anticipated PS3-exclusive FPS Killzone 2, Sony has confirmed.

In a post on the official PlayStation Blog, SCEA social media manager Jeff Rubenstein confirmed the news that is sure to disappoint many PS3-owners who would have gladly parted with their hard-earned cash for a Collector's Edition of the stunning FPS.

Rubenstein said: "There is no collector's edition slated for Killzone 2. Guerrilla Games has put all of their effort into creating this masterpiece of a game, so we didn't actively pursue a CE."

Yesterday Sony released a stunning new trailer for Killzone 2, and you can see it in glorious HD right here on VideoGamer.com.

Have we mentioned that we've played and finished Killzone 2 yet? Killzone 2 is due out exclusive for the PS3 in February. Expect our review ahead of the game's release.

True enough, some making of featurettes and an additional artwork booklet would be most welcome, but I like the look of the Steelbooks and this is the first game I'm hyped to the extent I've pre-ordered in about half a year, so I'm pushing the boat out a little.

I've never really had any problems with scratched or dented steel cases. The only one I have which has suffered this was Halo 2, which got a mild dent in the post.

Collectors Editions tend to be games with added content or items. The Steelbook is just a Limited Edition box, so still not a Collectors Edition.

Looks nice though, but judging on previous Steelbooks they can often be easily scratched or dented.

Well, that's exactly what happened to me - I ordered the regular edition about a month ago for £33, and got an email today saying they'd managed to get Limited Edition steelbook cases, and my order was being upgraded to this at no extra cost, and the price of the standard edition is dropping to £30.

Have you checked your email in the last day? I'm sure you'll have received one telling you what happened, too.

I'm a regular customer of Shopto.net now because of my brother. I have pre-ordered Killzone 2 but the steelbook edition wasn't up before I pre-ordered. Does it also apply to those who have already pre-ordered it like been sent a email from there that there is a limited edition of Killzone 2?

Yeah, I got a very nice email from ShopTo today saying my order has been upgraded to the Limited Edition steel case at no extra cost and the standard edition has dropped in price.

I've never even received an order through ShopTo before and I'm already dead impressed by their customer service.

Shame that they won't be no CE for K2. It all relies on GAME now to get a steelbook edition K2 which I would love in my PS3 collection.

Retailers seem to be cutting their own deals, Amazon in the U.S. is giving away some free KZ2-themed clothing for your Home avatar for preorders (are they called avatars on Home?), Gamestop got the exclusive on the demo for their preorders and so on.

Surprised GAME in the U.K. haven't come up with something yet. Helghast lunchbox and some ISA stickers or something.

Im well gutted about this, my god id pay good money for a CE. But on the other hand, Sony has thought about its loyal fans rather than raking in the extra cash from a CE. IMO Sony has put our happiness before its wallet. Bravo Sony Bravo! Thanks and i now can't wait for this beast!!!

Reviews already are saying this is going to be the most stunning game ever created for the PS3 (even beats MGS4) Accordig to reviews ;)
