Microsoft fuels console war with Halo 3 claim

Has sold more than a bunch of PS3 games combined.

With monster trade show E3 right around the corner, gamers are bracing themselves for an onslaught of willy waving from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo during their high-profile press conferences.

Microsoft, however, has thrown the first punch, and it's thrown it early.

In a tweet, Xbox product director Aaron Greenberg told the internet-browsing world just how much more successful 360 exclusive sci-fi shooter Halo 3 is than the big hitters on PS3.

"Just in from research team (NPD): Halo 3 has outsold Resistance 1 + 2, Uncharted 1+2, Killzone 2 and God of War III COMBINED....wow", he said.

Greenberg's not wrong, of course. Halo 3 was a phenomenally successful game. First day sales reached $170 million in the US, setting a record for highest gross of an entertainment product within 24 hours of release. On January 3 2008 Microsoft announced that Halo 3 had sold 8.1 million copies.

Still, Greenberg's comments are sure to get PS3 fanboys' knickers in a twist. The 'my willy's bigger than yours etc' has begun. Expect more from E3 next week.

I think Greenberg is a little upset over the ass kicking Sony gave them today at E3. We'll see how many numbers he wants to throw out when the end of year #'s come out. Everything I've read so far projects PS3 to outsell 360 $15 million to $10 million in 2010. PS3 is also projected to dethrone the Wii in 2011.

im surprised cuz didnt killzone 2 have a 40 million investments? and 5 year development?

the ocarina of time is a good game no doubt, but that is last generation, critics review differently, the zelda games were the first games to do many things which is why it was rated so high at the time

well this statement they made is basically used to make sony fell like *****, that they spent over over hundreds of millions on each of these games for development and advertisments and yet microsoft only a few million on only ONE game and yet has made almost 1 billion dollars worth of profit, thats why sony fell like ***** now

Lets be honest, Wii has "stolen boths lunch money" and imagine the BS they could come out with. Sales isnt indicative of quality (Wii play says Hi). Imagine the BS sony Could say about Ps3 exclusives compared to xbox exclusives in japan(they could probs say something like MGS4 sold more than ever 360 exc ever in japan or summat stupid. But halo is awesome

Maybe because Xbox owners only have 1 or 2 good games to get halo and Gears, both shooters, PS3 audience is much more diverse as is the game library, at the end of te day this is irrelevant as the Ps3 has been gaining on the xbox and is expected to pass it in sales despite a year later and being more expensive in 2011.
