Killzone 2 outsold Killzone 3 at launch

Killzone 3's first week sales in the UK failed to better those of Killzone 2, GfK ChartTrack reports.

While Killzone 3 is the 14th fastest selling Sony title in terms of week one sales, Killzone 2 (released two years ago), is the company's 5th fastest selling title and remains the series' number one in terms of week 1 sell-through.

Killzone 3 is Sony's 2nd All Formats No.1 this year, following LittleBigPlanet 2 in week 3, which showed similar week 1 sell-through to Killzone 3.

Killzone 3 beat Bulletstorm to the top of the UK All Formats All Prices chart.

There's no doubt that Sony has got off to a great start in 2011, with two first-party exclusive titles charting at No.1 already. While sales of Killzone 3 perhaps aren't as high as Sony would have liked, launching alongside the highly rated Bulletstorm wasn't ideal.

Don't get me wrong the game is really good fun, but from alot of users on the forums. There has been alot of complaints about FPS lag on high machines.

I can't go more than x2 on AA without it being unplayable. The strange thing is, when I play on my HD TV the FPS shoot up and its not an issue.

Sales are down on KZ3 compared to KZ2 but it still outsells BS - this says one thing to me - that a lot more people are waiting now for the price of the games to drop before buying them. Everyone knows now that even just a two week wait can save you a tenner. A months wait and the game is half price. Unless the game is a must have for someone they are now willing to wait as cash is getting precious especially with how many quality titles are coming out now.

I'm sure being released the same week as Bulletstorm didn't help it. Quite surprised it outsold a multi-platform game though.

I think it depends by how much really a slight decrease within the current climate isn't too bad wasn't the revenue from the games industry as a whole slightly down on the year before?

Sony look like they are going to have the most number 1 first party games this year which can't be a bad thing . Competition breeds innovation and KZ3's lack of it has made me look to trade for Homefront next week.
Kz is a marmite game and i am in the hate it , not actually hate but just not a fan of the franchise and with CoD being samey for 4 yrs , bulletstorm and Homefront are that something different .

I think purely launching in 2011 is not ideal tbh, way way to many good games in almost every genre this year.

Their are hardly any genres with breathing room, maybe RTS but that is the realm of the PC any way and we might get the new Starcraft any way.
