Online multiplayer servers for Gran Turismo 5 and the entire Resistance series will be shut down later this year, Sony has announced.

Servers for Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2 and Resistance 3 will be taken offline on March 28, with Gran Turismo 5 following on May 20.

The decision means that players will no longer be able to access the online multiplayer functionality of the titles beyond the shut down dates.

Previous online services shut down by Sony include online multiplayer functionaliy for PAIN, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift and Calling All Cars.

However, the decision to take Gran Turismo 5 offline has led some commenters to speculate that it could be a cynical way of moving players over to last month’s Gran Turismo 6, which is thought to have failed to meet sales targets.

As previously announced by Sony, online services for MAG, SOCOM: Special Forces and SOCOM: Confrontation will be taken offline on January 28.
