Sony has moved to reassure fans of PlayStation Home on PS3 that the virtual world remains a "top priority" for the platform holder, despite reports of the contrary.

According to an Edge report, Sony's director of PlayStation Home, Pete Edwards, speaking at the London Games Conference, said: "It’s been a long road. We've proved there is a market out there and we've got a lot of people that spend a lot of time in [Home]. It’s not a priority right now but there is a business model there."

Sony is now reporting that Edwards was misquoted and misrepresented.

"Edwards was saying that monetizing Home was not as big a priority as building a great platform, with a compelling environment and a strong community. Home is still a top priority for Sony and will continue to release quality content and provide a positive experience to our users," explained the PlayStation Home manager on the official PlayStation forums.

Yeah Home is balls. Big, hairy, stinking, in the desert camel's balls.

HONESTLY, Home is a smear on PS3's face. If they want to make it truly top priority ditch it as is and just start over.

I'm reluctant to believe that Home was EVER a top priority for Sony. There's very little attention paid to it, and I still don't quite understand how they intend to implement it into PSN.

My opinion is that they bit off more than they could chew at the time, and needed to do things in a different order. The infrastructure doesn't support very well the type of party system they wanted from it, and they should have sorted that out before building Home and then having to shape them around each other later.

It seems, anyway, that Home's purpose has now changed to simply a marketing tool under the guise of a social networking platform, which is fine, but there's still some integral stuff missing to make it as good as I want it to be.
