Sony Computer Entertainment Europe product manager Lucy Duncan has said Heavy Rain is a risk, but believes the game has the potential to 'break out'.

"Being Sony, I suppose we have a little more luxury to take a gamble on more original and innovative IP - and Heavy Rain definitely fits that category," said Duncan.

"I suppose the risk is lessened if you have faith in the team behind the game and David [Cage, co-founder] and Guillaume [de Fondaumière, CEO] and the guys at Quantic Dream have really impressed, not just in terms of their back catalogue - Farenheit - but also in terms of the tech demo's they showed in the run up to Heavy Rain."

Duncan concluded: "I really believe Heavy Rain has a great chance of breaking out. As well as the reviews, there also feels like there is a real groundswell of anticipation from gaming communities and trade alike so let's see how it goes."

Heavy Rain is scheduled for release on February 26 only on PS3. A playable demo is scheduled for February 11.

I'll buy the game to support pushing boundaries in games, and Heavy Rain does more than most games released last year did collectively. That and I'm genuinely intrigued by story lines that change based on your actions and decisions. It will also look ridiculously good.

From the game play side of things from the videos i have seen i do not feel compelled to get this game. I hope that this falls to me being rather shallow but i will wait for my friend to get it.

I do find and agree that Sony are very good at trying new things and that there in a position to do so is good news for gaming.

Edit: did not mean to be a reply

To be fair, if MS copied EyeToy they would just merely create the exact same thing which looks the same and the functionality would be the same...Natal is not the same at all. Except from the fact that games can be played without a controller.

Sony have always gambled but they never get credit for it.Not in the press anyway, that is reserved for Nintendo, and even MS.Journos actually got really excited because Mario Galaxy featured a horrible bee suit or because MS copied eyetoy, years later.

It is good that they have they have the luxery of gambling, rather than putting there bottom dollar on it.

And I'm just wondering whether it is worth the risk of my money being put to good use or not

I still think this is where Sony is strongest, a lot of people would not take a risk on a game like this.

They have been really good this gen with New Ips I must say, but then they have the luxury I guess with all those studios

I cant wait for this game!

Refreshingly frank and modest comments there. Bravo, I hope it does well for them.
