A movie of Sony's PS3 game Heavy Rain is being fast-tracked, according to a report on Variety.

The game to movie adaptation is being written by Deadwood executive producer David Milch. Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne are producing through Unique Features.

"David Milch's incredible ability to transform intense and complex storylines into gripping, popular drama makes him the perfect partner for us to have on 'Heavy Rain,'" commented Shaye.

We love Heavy Rain, crowning it our 2010 game of the year.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

A movie version of Heavy Rain will be interesting as it will obviously lose the crucial element of interaction that made the game so engaging. Whether or not the story is good enough to stand alone as a linear tale remains to be seen.

A movie loosely based on Heavy Rain might work. A film adaption of the game will be another epic failure.

Wouldn;t it be far easier to just record someone playing through the title once? Why remake the wheel, so to speak? It's pretty much just a film as-is! :p

Yes but the reason Heavy Rain is so entertaining is that any of the characters could die at any time, and it's entirely your fault if they do. In the film, okay you don't know how it's going to end in exact detail, but then it's just another film surely?

I'd have to disagree, isn't the outcome the same? The same serial killer and all that? I've only played it through once. Maybe they will do alternate endings like Paranormal Activity which i believe has 3 or 4?

And the whole bloody point of the game is that it's personal to the player as to how it turns out. Heavy Rain is absolutely the worst possible game to make into a film. There will be no benefits at all, and I will avoid seeing it in case it taints my memory of my favourite game of 2010.

The only problem with a film version of Heavy Rain is that I klnow who did it!
(otherwise it won't be faithful to the game and we'll all moan about that!)

Has this anything to do with VG propping it up as 'Game of the Year'?
