Heavy Rain demo in development
Is proving a real challenge.
Speaking to VideoGamer.com earlier this year Quantic Dream founder David Cage revealed that the decision to release a playable demo for upcoming PS3 title Heavy Rain had not been made, explaining that the game is difficult to accurately represent in demo form.
"There are some big debates at the moment within Sony about the proposal and the interest of a demo," Cage told VideoGamer.com at gamescom. "Even to make shows like Cologne, it's a real nightmare to pick out one scene and say, look, we're going to choose one scene and people will understand what this game is all about."
He added: "Honestly I don't know at the moment. There are pros and cons to doing this."
Speaking more recently with G4, Cage confirmed that the decision has been made to produce a demo, but the challenge of accurately representing the game remains.
"We are currently working on a demo, which is a real challenge," said Cage. "Finding one scene that can convey what we are trying to achieve with Heavy Rain is something really difficult."
He added that releasing a demo is required because Heavy Rain is a new concept to gamers.
"We also know many good games that ended up not being massive hits because the demo could not convey the quality of the game behind it," he said. "Because Heavy Rain is a new concept and since many gamers will want to check what it is before buying it, we will be releasing a demo. We just need to find the best scene for it."
Heavy Rain is scheduled for release only on PS3 in 2010.

That being said, I am very interested in Heavy Rain and would love a demo. It's fair enough that there is apprehension about exactly what the demo will contain but if the final release will be anything like what Quantic Dream has professed, then I don't think it will matter.
In my opinion there should be more demos available across the board. 9 times out of ten I'd be able to tell you whether I will like a game and hence cement my decision to buy it at some stage. There are some though that I am sceptical about and what better way to deliberate than to play a small portion before (or sometimes after) release?
It's a great tool along with reviews and user comments etc. to determine if a game is worth having...

Rubbish game, show loads of vids and if it's good do a demo. I find it odd when some of the demos released are poor, may as well not release it and buy reviews from News of the World and Gamesmaster lol.
