Speaking during a CES keynote last week (reported by Edge), Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith revealed that Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock has become the first single game to surpass $1 billion in sales.

This news comes just a year after Activision announced that the Guitar Hero franchise overall had broke the $1 billion sales milestone - Guitar Hero launched on the PlayStation 2 in November 2005.

The success of Guitar Hero is also rubbing off on the artists featured in the games, with Griffith noting that according to Nielsen data, download sales for artists appearing in Guitar Hero have risen 15-843 per cent. First week sales of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith are also said to have tripled the first-week sales of the band's previous album.

I hate press-the-button-to-the-beat-with-an-instrument-shaped-controller games!!!! They actually offend me, i mean think of all those classics that must have taken so long and so much money to make and this rubbish come along and dwarfs their profit margins!! down with casual gaming, its not even really a game!!!

However, I wonder if and when people will start to become sick of all these rythm games - will ActiBlizz burn the franchise out releasing at least two games a year on home consoles?
i dont think poeple will get sick of the game, due to how many song/band are out,so you will never run out of new song to play.

Incredible, especially when you consider that only a handful of movies have broken $1 billion at the box office. However, I wonder if and when people will start to become sick of all these rythm games - will ActiBlizz burn the franchise out releasing at least two games a year on home consoles?
